House Cross Country Carnival
Last Tuesday, 3 May, both campuses participated in the House Cross Country Carnival at Casey Fields. It was a great day for a run and Mr Leigh Murphy (Sports Co-ordinator) did a great job with his team in organising the course and the running of the event.
The junior (Year 7-9) students completed the course in the first 2 periods and then the senior (Years 10-12) students ran in Periods 3 & 4. It was a very good turn out with 249 runners competing. Participation is certainly a key factor in winning the House Cross Country Shield, although some particularly impressive individual efforts were also important. Congratulations to Augustine House on their important win that shows they are not just chess champions!
The results have seen a shakeup in the McGuigan Shield House Competition with Avila moving into first place with a narrow 14 point lead over Augustine who is a mere 4 points ahead of MacKillop.
VCE Performance Evening
On Tuesday evening, 7 May, the VCE students from both campuses studying the performing arts subjects Dance, Drama and VET Music showcased their talent to an appreciative crowd of family, friends and staff members in the Multi-Purpose Hall. While this is an important assessment task for the students, it is also an entertaining evening for all who attend. Our dancers, Naomi Hind, Hayley Garnham, Natalie Angus, Sarah Soutter-Coghlan, Alana Wilkins, Elizabeth Lupeamanu, and Hayley Steny all performed solo dances and then a group dance choreographed by their teacher Ms Mady Bolch.
Drama students took up the theme of the miscarriage of justice were inspired by the events of the wrongful convictions of Lindy Chamberlain and Rubin “Hurricane” Carter. Cranbourne students captivated us with their performances in two separate ensembles. The first involved Mikayla van der Velden, Ethan Davis, Finlay Moore and Natasha Krishna. The second ensemble consisted of Daniel Lee, Jade Irvin, Sarah Soutter-Coghlan, Aaron Jankovic and Ryan Brack. Congratulations to Mr Michael Dalley who guided the students in these performances.
The VET Music students travel to Clyde North Campus where Mr Brian Wallwork hones their instrumental and singing skills. Tom Arnott played guitar with two students from Clyde North (Zaria & Dinuli) to produce an instrumental of the great Elvis hit “I Can’t Help Falling in Love”. Remus Puni (drums), Ella Henry (keyboard), Charlette Cowan (bass guitar and backing vocals) and Hazel Fosio on lead vocals impressed with two songs including Queen’s great, “I Want to Break Free”. In the second half we were entertained firstly by Davyn White (keyboards and ukulele), Claudia Berke (vocals) and Italiah-Magdalene Lutu (vocals) were surprise newcomers on the music scene for the College and really impressed with renditions of “You are the Reason” and “Party Favour”. They then combined with Hazel and Charlette for a marvellous quartet singing the Miley Cyrus classic “The Climb”. The final set of songs was the band of Lusia Samuelu (percussion), Stephanie Kumarich (), Eneleisha Sitagata (keyboards & vocals) and Elizabeth Lupeamanu (lead vocals) who sang “Tennesee Whiskey”, the Crowded House hits “Don’t Dream It’s Over” and “Better Be Home Soon” and the gospel song “Look For Me”.
I look forward to a number of these students displaying their talents to the wider school community in the last week of term at the St Peter’s Day Talent Quest on Tuesday, 25 June.
