Girl Guides Mentor Breakfast
Three of our year 11 students embraced the opportunity of attending the Girl Guides Mentor Breakfast at Bunjil Place last week. The girls were highly motivated and organised their parents to ensure they were at the breakfast by 7am! Thank you parents. Upon their return to the college, the girls were very excited and clearly had been inspired by the event. Special thanks to Ms Hyland who attended the event with the girls.
On Friday the 3rd Danica, Gemma and I, along with Miss. Hyland attended the Girl Guides Victoria Casey Women’s Mentor Breakfast. We enjoyed an early morning breakfast and a presentation by the esteemed ‘Woman of Note’ Wendy Wright PhD. There were many inspiring women to speak to who had achieved leadership roles in their fields including nurses, paramedics, teachers, defence force, and business owners. We spoke with these women about their careers, and ask questions about where we are interested in studying and perusing a career in later in life. In this experience, I was able to learn what course and other information I need to know to pursue a career in the medical flied, from talking to a paramedic, midwife and a podiatrist. Wendy Wright provided us a very inspiring speech. Where she spoke about her career in zoology, she spoke about her success and her struggles.

Lantern – Augustine House
As a dedication for the Sri Lankan bombing victims Augustine House student Tharushi Perera created a beautiful lantern. Tharushi models to all of us the need for love and acceptance of all faiths, cultures and beliefs. Trust is more easily established and supported when we choose inclusivity and love other prejudice and hate.
I wanted to make this lantern because, the Vesak celebrations have been banned in Sri Lanka. They have been banned because of the bombings. To me the lantern means family, joy and peace which is just what we need. We celebrate Vesak because of the Birth, Enlightenment & Death of Lord Buddha. Tharushi.
2019 Athletics Carnival
The sun shone down on all athletes, student cheer quads and teachers as the Clyde North Campus took over Casey Fields’ main arena to showcase our talent, dedication and true St Peter’s spirit. Records were broken including leaps and jumps in both the high jump and long jump events that would put Superman to shame! The Carnival provides us with a break from the normal routine and the opportunity to unite as one to share in our unique bond that is St Peters. Through the lens of the colourful costumes worn by seniors, and the inspiring House Chants the day is brought to life. We were well fuelled by the VCAL run BBQ, and the endless cups of tea & coffee as provided to staff by the LEC team of students. Our sincere congratulations and thanks go to Mr Samaranayake and his dedicated team who worked tirelessly to organise and run this first class event. I would also thank all of the staff who also ran and marshalled events.
A popular event for all of us is definitely the staff vs student relay where competitive spirit is taken to a new level. The staff led all the way with Mr Green bringing home the mighty blue ribbon. A new event this year was added, the House Leaders Race. This was a fantastic way for students to get behind their House Leader and cheer them on to victory. Mr Antoine (Assisi House) was a firm favourite to win and he did not let his house down, rocketing home by a very long margin.
Whilst Glowrey House took away the Shield for the winning House and Kolbe won House Spirit, all Houses displayed passion and enthusiasm to do their best on the track, field and in the stands cheering on the competitors. Congratulations to all competitors and a special congratulations must go to both Glowrey and Kolbe Houses.
Final Scores:
Glowrey: 1047
Kolbe: 949.9
Assisi: 915.3
Augustine: 911.4
Romero: 703.4
MacKillop: 572.9
Marian: 565.4
Avila: 478.5
Update: - it is a close race now between the top 4 houses, with Kolbe making a run for the Shield.
There are plenty of House based activities to come throughout terms 2 and 3 and as such plenty of opportunities for students to participate and score points for their house.
