iCreate Martial Arts Excursion

- Hall's Tae Kwon Do Centre

On Wednesday 15th of August, the I-create Martial Arts group went on an excursion to Hall’s Tae Kwon Do Centre in Sunshine, to spend the day training in a different setting. The students participated in the training session conducted by Luke Atkins, a 6th Dan Black Belt and Tough Mudder Champion. They were pushed to the limit in their fitness. None of the students gave up during the training and were determined to impress the instructor. The students also learnt different styles of Tae Kwon Do kicks, strikes, basic self-defence and some games. The students enjoyed every moment of their time there.

Great effort, team!

Science Week

13-17th August 2018

Westall Secondary College celebrated Science Week from 13th-17th of August, with fun lunchtime activities such as making lava lamps, artificial snow, clouds in a water bottle, slime, popsicle photo frames and water bottle rockets! We also had 2 neuro-scientists talk about their role and research. It was fantastic to see many of our students get involved in science week and watch the water bottle rocket competition using high pressure water!

Westall SC Athletics Day

On Tuesday the 7th of August, Westall Secondary College participated in the annual whole school House Athletics Carnival. Once again, it was a fantastic day with students participating in a range of Athletic and Novelty events. This year students relished the opportunity to get involved in the festivities of the day. The year 12’s lead the way getting dressed up in all sorts of whacky and wonderful things. Their level of commitment was demonstrated by a group of students who dressed up as inflated dinosaurs, attempted to run the 100m sprint as fast as they could. Let’s just say there were a few twists and rolls that you would have never thought possible by a T-Rex but this proved to be some of the best entertainment the crowd witnessed.

In fifth on 290 points WELC as always, were very strong in the novelty races. They had some great teamwork earning themselves many points. Some individuals that lead the way were Mioftu winning the 1500m, Humphrey coming 2nd in the 100m and Hector 2nd in the 800m.

In fourth on 403 points, Gordon. Gordon had a few amazing individual efforts but just needed a few more participants to put down a bigger challenge. The highlights for Gordon were Ayane from year 10 winning the 100m, 200m and 400m. Gemasba from year 9 showed an all-round performance winning the 100m, 200m and High jump while also coming 2nd in the Javelin and Long jump. Jamnl from year 10 was too strong in the High jump, Shot put and finished top 4 in Javelin and Discus.

In third on 475 points Dennis. Dennis were dependent on quite a few dominant performances and it was mainly from their younger years, which possibly means, the future could be bright for Dennis. Johnny in year 8 lead the way winning the 400m, 800m and 1500m races while also finishing 2nd in the 200m. Another junior, Xena won the Shot put and finished top 3 in the Discus and Javelin. Lastly Thi Truc Linh from year 11 won the 200m, 400m and came 2nd in the 100m

In second on 740 points, Paterson. Paterson continued their willingness to get behind each other with high participation across the board. The highlights for Paterson were Rachel from year 11 with too much power, dominating her rivals in Discus, Javelin and then finishing runner up in Shot put and 100m. Emily was far too good in the Discus, Javelin and Long jump. Junior in year 7 won the 100m and 400m while also coming 2nd in Discus and the 200m.

In first on 934 points, Lawson. Lawson made it 7 years in a row, which really is such an amazing achievement. Once again, they had fantastic participation from their competitors and many students taking the maximum points from plenty of events. The two house captains lead the way with Aaliyah winning the 100m, Javelin and coming 2nd in the Discus and Shotput. Tynan won the Javelin, Triple jump and Long jump, while coming 2nd in the 100m. The real domination came from Tangi in year 7 who won the 100m, 200m, 400m and Long jump.

It was again another fantastic carnival. Congratulations to all students and staff for getting involved.
