Year 12 Final Day House Competition

We were blessed with fantastic weather to farewell our Year 12s at our Year 12 Final Day on Tuesday 18 October. As is our tradition at Oxley, the Year 12 students’ final day was celebrated with a concert, followed by a day of House competitions in basketball, table tennis and soccer. It was a great carnival atmosphere with the rides close to the Stadium this year. After the students witnessed some great dancing talent from our teachers during the concert, also attended by our Junior students, the House competition commenced.

Year 7 - 9 students started the day outside with the soccer competition and allocated time on the rides, while Year 10 - 12 students played basketball and table tennis inside. After a short lunch break, the groups swapped over before gathering to watch the Year 11 vs Year 12 basketball match, won by the Year 12s this year.

The competition between the Houses was very close throughout the year as each House claimed a carnival, and Year 12 Final Day was no exception. It was very close between Blue House and White House throughout the day, but it was Blue House that was crowned winners at the end of the competition with a 27-point win over White House and Red House in third position. Zion Crusaders (Blue House) won the basketball and soccer competition and Tabor Trojans the (White House) the table tennis competition.

Gibeon Warriors (Red House) came second in the soccer but ended up third in the basketball and table tennis.

Lastly, I wish all the Year 12 students God’s greatest blessings as they undertake their examinations in the coming weeks.

Year 10 Sports Analysis

On Thursday 6 October, the Year 10 Sports Analysis class travelled to the city to watch Melbourne Victory train, followed by a fun game of tennis at Melbourne Park. We caught the train early in the morning to get to the city with Mr Cutler’s Year 11 PE class, who came along to do their own session.

While watching Victory, the class observed the team’s leadership traits and different skills performed in football, summed up into quantitative and qualitative data. One player that the class had a common interest in was Manchester United legend, Luis Nani, who recently transferred to Victory. It was fascinating to see him using the same skills from his glory days. Watching him train was reminiscent of how he played in the past.

An elite sporting team is made up of different staff members. To resemble this, each member of our class was divided into working parties. The roles were team chaplains, nutritionists, fitness and conditioning staff, positive team culture workers, navigation and logistics, skills coach.

The highlight of the day was playing tennis on the clay courts. Although it was a bit slippery and wet, it was still fun to play against our classmates. Another fun aspect of the day was eating lunch after analysing the Melbourne Victory session.
