Literacy

During our literacy lesson students have begun to learn about the structure and purpose of a poem. The students have explored a range of poems this week including Acrostic, Cinquain, Haiku and Rhyming

The students wrote poems about the fruits and vegetables they created during inquiry, their favourite animals and also about the weather.

Look at the fantastic writing they have done.

Mathematics

In Mathematics we have been learning about chance. The student have explored and are fluent in using the words Impossible, Unlikely, Likely and Certain to describe the chance of an event occurring.

We have been playing some fun games such as heads and tails and pick a corner to explore chance. Students have also explored the chance of everyday events and are now beginning to conduct their own chance experiments and describe them in their own words.

Here they are playing heads and tails and exploring the chance of flipping a head or a tail with a coin.

Inquiry

Our Inquiry topic for this term in all about Creativity

To beginning our creative thinking the student had to work together in teams to create the tallest tower. They were given four pieces of paper and a roll of tape. This activity allowed the student to work together as a team and think creatively about how to make a sturdy  structure.

Next we had to think creatively to make a fruit or vegetable. The students had a wide range of materials and had to use their visualising skills to think what the fruit or vegetable looks like in real life. Students had to choose what  materials would be best to make their fruit or vegetable. Finally the students created their fruits and vegetables out of their supplies. I think they look amazing.

All this creativity will eventually lead us to designing and building our very own Robot Buddies later in the term.  We will be asking for donations of small/medium cardboard boxes (tissue, cereal, biscuit, shoe box sizes) and cardboard rolls.

Because we are lacking storage space, could you please collect them at home and send them into school after week 6 - from November 14th.
