Welcome to Term 4!

Hero Awards

Congratulations to Holly, Cooper, Valentina and Aneeta for completing your hero awards chart. Keep up the great work!

Inquiry

Our Inquiry unit this term is called Frame by Frame. Our over-arching theme is Creativity. Over the course of the term the students will be creating their very own stop motion animations. The students will create a simple story with characters, a setting and props. They will draw a storyboard that depicts an interesting scene in their story and use the storyboard to make a stop motion animation. The students will build a set with props, capture images using a device and present their animation at our very own creativity expo! In the coming weeks we will start planning and designing.

This week we experimented with stop motion by making flip books!

Respectful Relationships

Our Respectful Relationships topic for term 4 is Positive Gender Relations. Activities will assist students to:

• Identify different forms of gender based violence, including physical, verbal and psychological

• Examine the effects of gender-based violence on targets, witnesses and perpetrators

• Describe and demonstrate what respectful, gender inclusive behaviours look like in action informed by human rights

• Assess conflict situations to consider possible responses (safely end, intervene or withdraw)

• Describe and practice help-seeking skills and strategies that can be used when encountering uncomfortable or unsafe situations involving peers or adults.

Some of the topics we'll be covering include: What is violence? Building a definition, Rights and Responsibilities, What is respect? Respect in action, It starts with me: a gender friendly community and finally Seeking Safety, seeking help - trust, help seeking, warning signs and staying safe.

Numeracy

So far this term we've been revising what we already know about addition and subtraction. Students have applied this knowledge through a range of games that involve adding and subtracting numbers, using their knowledge of inverse operations, as well as using mental and written strategies for working out different equations.

This is one game we all enjoyed playing called, 'Get Out of My House.'

Literacy

To begin Term 4 our focus for writing is Dynamic Dialogue. Dialogue is such an important part of our writing and used effectively enhances it in many ways. Good dialogue can:

- Reveal something about a character

- Should move the plot forward

- Make our writing more powerful
