Stage 1 Outdoor Ed Camps

In Weeks 7 and 9, 32 Year 10 students studying Stage 1 Outdoor Education attended a three day camping expedition to Onkaparinga River and Belair National Parks. Over the three days, students were challenged out of the comfort zones and pushed to their limits during rock climbing, abseiling, orienteering, mountain biking and hiking activities. This camp provided students the opportunity to plan and cook their own meals on Trangia cooking stoves, assemble and sleep in a tent, practice map and compass skills and demonstrate leadership within a group setting. Both camps were challenged with an array of weather including blue skies, rain, wind and sunshine. Teamwork, perseverance and courage were the strong themes demonstrated throughout both expeditions, making it a rewarding and enjoyable experience for all staff and students.

Business Innovation Week

The Year 11 Business students tested their start-up business ideas during Business Innovation Week recently. They learnt about customers, finance and organisational structures. Students made food items and organised entertainment for staff and students at the College in order to gain valuable feedback about their solutions.

Bush Food Fine Dining

The Year 12 Food and Hospitality Integrated Learning class made me proud last Friday when they presented their Bush Food Fine Dining experience for the Reconciliation Action Plan team members. Their design brief was to research how the Food and Hospitality Industry can utilise Indigenous ingredients in a respectful and sustainable way, to then incorporate Indigenous ingredients into a contemporary fine dining three course meal.

A fabulous way to end the course!

Nylon Challenge

The Year 12 Chemistry Students battled it out recently in the annual Polymer Challenge.

Adding a little bit of this, and a little bit of that, students were able to make long strands of nylon.

Congratulations to our winning team, James, Ben, and Kendall, with a new Endeavour Record of 10.57m! Well done!

Spirited Exhibition

Now in its third year, the Spirited Exhibition held locally in the Mawson Centre, is nearing its closure after a two-week public display period. Spirited is a Year 8 interdisciplinary project between Art, Languages and Literacy aimed at enriching the cultural tapestry of fairytale expression through Art. Students watched Ponyo (Japanese) and Sleeping Beauty (German) in their Languages and Literacy classes this year, studying the symbolism within each film, drawing out the similarities and differences between them.

Students then reflect their learning through Art in groups, finishing the unit with a unique and vibrant piece of work.

Thank you to all that have taken the time to go and see the student work on display over the last two weeks.

We look forward to showcasing student findings and artworks for Spirited 2023.
