World Teachers’ Day

World Teachers’ Day 2022 is celebrated across Australia on Friday 28 October. It’s a chance to recognise and thank our teachers for their passion and dedication to inspire our children to be the best they can be.

We are so very lucky here at Palm Beach SS to have the most amazing group of teachers who go above and beyond each and every day for Palm Beach kids.

If you see our teachers around tomorrow, please thank them for all they do for our students.

Assemblies

It has been great to have assemblies back at our school. Coming together as a school community is so very important to celebrate achievements and give messages but to also teach our students social skills, manners and respect.  Assemblies are an important part of the culture of our school and we welcome parents to join us each Thursday from 2pm in the hall.

Year 4 Camp

Last week our Year 4’s attended an overnight camp at Bornhoffen Leadership Development Centre at Natural Bridge. Although the weather wasn’t kind, our students had a great time and were excellent representatives of our school. A very big thank-you to our staff who take time away from their own families to provide this opportunity for our students.

School Review

As you know, we recently had our school review.  Please see below an infographic summarising the outcome of our review. If you would like to read further, the Executive Summary is also available on our school website palmbeachss.eq.edu.au.

Please take the time to have a look and if you have any questions I’m more than happy to have a chat.

Bell Times 2023

Currently at Palm Beach SS, teachers open their doors at 8:30am with instruction starting at 8:45am.

Teachers in Queensland work under the Teaching in State Education Award 2016, which outlines teachers’ industrial entitlements under the Industrial Relations Act 2016.

To ensure I am complying with the above award, from 2023 teachers will not be required to open their doors at 8:30am. Some teachers may choose to do this; however, it will not be an expectation that all teachers do so.

Instruction will begin at 8:45am in all classes. Bell times will be altered to reflect this change. A bell will sound at 8:40am signalling for students to move to their classrooms and an 8:45am bell will sound to signal the beginning of the learning time. All other bells throughout the day will remain unchanged.

School Zone Speed Camera Technology

In a world-first road safety initiative, new speed camera technology will soon target speeding drivers at selected school zones across Queensland.

Everyone has a role in keeping our roads safe. It is imperative drivers reduce their speed to the signed 40 km/h speed limit and be aware of activity by students on or near the road.

Speed cameras will only operate during school zone times at the selected schools.

Parents, and carers dropping off or picking up students are urged to comply with school zone speed limits. Those who slowdown will not be penalised.
