Beef

The College has commenced its annual sale of our beef weaners.  We sold 64 Angus steers for an average price of $1,972.48, which is comparable to last year’s sale. Well done to Mr Edwards and Mr Falkingham on the presentation of our cattle. We still have 80 cross bred weaners, along with approximately 50 cull cows to sell.

Last Monday, Mark and Diana Muir (ex-student 2016) from Mordallup Angus Stud visited the College to assist with our heifer and cow selection for next year’s mating programme.

Silage

Late last week, with the help of Chris Barton Consulting, we seeded 6 ha of maize.  This will be cut for silage in early March 2023 and used in our Dairy feed shed which will enable us to lower the amount of pellets we feed and overall lower our feed cost for the Dairy herd.

Thanks go to Mr Falkingham for preparing the paddock for sowing and Ben Hayes (ex student 2004) who kindly seeded the paddock.

Sheep

Mr Adams and Mr McGee have been working with Rebecca Thompson from South Regional TAFE this week to deliver a Certificate III in Advanced Wool Handling to a group of Year 11 students.

Our hay and silage season is slowly coming to an end with the last of the paddocks being mowed and baled this week.  Now the job of carting it all begins.

Congratulations to all Year 12 graduating students.  It was fantastic to see you all at the ceremony.
