Our 2022 School Year draws to a close

In many ways the end of the year has come quickly yet our tiredness makes it feel like it has been a very long year. Rather than feeling weary, the focus should be on the abundance of acheivements 2022 has brought to each of us individually and as a community.

We have much to be grateful for as depicted in the photographs included in this edition of the newsletter. A little trip down memory lane serves to remind us of all the activities, fun, energy and celebrations we have shared in 2022.

As is the tradition we start every year with an opening mass, and finish with the closing mass. And what a wonderful closing mass we shared this week.

In the months between these two important occasions we shared in days celebrating Harmony and days commenorating the significance of ANZAC Day in quiet reflection. Laughter, singing and dancing were often celebrated at carnvials, St. Peter’s Day, Creative Arts and VCE Performance evenings. We ate incredibly well as the Hospitality and VCAL students fine tuned their culinary skills. SIS activities again flourished inviting all to join in and challenge themselves to debating, basketball, chess and many other sports. The publication of Shared Stories Anthology always holds a special place in the school calendar, and this year we saw many more students contribute their paintings, photographs, poems and stories reflecting on the 2022 theme, Imagine if…. Congratuations to all students for their contributions and special mention to Zelandia Schwalger whose beautiful artwork is featured as the back cover for 2022.

The Anthology theme, Imagine If, sums up the hopes and dreams we all have at the beginning of a new school year. The key is to keep imagining these dreams until they become a reality. For many students and staff this year, imagination became a critical part of getting through, over, and under the legacy of COVID and remote learning. We were back on campus for the entire year, did we ever imagine this would be possible based on the last two years?

As the school year draws to a close we can confidently shift our imaginings and wonderings to what 2023 will bring. We do so now with hope, faith and positivity that 2023 will provide us with the space to be all that we can be.

We certainly know it to be the end of term and year when we finish the day with the Tug of War. This is the first offical Rosemary Graham challenge signaling the beginning of the 2023 Shield competition. And the winner was Koble, well done.

It is time to let the photographs remind us of the wonderful year we shared.

As we say goodbye to 2022 and look forward to warm sunny days spent with family and friends, we must not forget how lucky we have been this year to spend it with each other.

I wish you all a very Blessed and safe Christmas.
