Around the College

Dr Paul Shannon - Welcoming our Year 7's, 2023.

As our Year 7 cohort for 2023 arrived at the College this week to embark on their Mazenod journey, College Principal — Dr Paul Shannon shared a message in the video below to our young men.

We wish all of our newcomers a wonderful year ahead, filled with exciting experiences and supporting one another in unity through this time together.

Top Class Selection

Once again Mazenod has had fantastic results with the Year 12 Drama solo examination. Matthew Bray, Alexander Moretto and Thomas Phillipos all achieved an A+ for their Drama solo, which places them in the top level of state results for this performance examinationDue to this, they received invitations to audition for Top Class as part of the VCE Season of Excellence. Only a few students each year are offered this opportunity so to have three auditions is an admirable outcome.

The auditions took place in the last week and Matthew was selected to go further and perform at the Malthouse House Theatre centre as part of this performance festival.

This is the eighth year in a row that Mazenod Drama has been represented at this elite level and represents a significant achievement for both Matthew and the Drama teachers who have guided him over his time at the College.

Matthew typifies the Mazenod spirit, and beyond the stage is a coach in our elite Volleyball program, and is currently assisting our new Year 7s in their transition to secondary school. Matthew leaves nothing undared.

Volleyball Australia School's Cup 2022

After an unbelievable performance at the 2022 Volleyball Australia Schools Cup, the Mazenod College Year 8 Honours team has brought home gold!

With more than 390 teams in attendance, the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup returned in sensational fashion after COVID saw the event delivered in a condensed format in 2021.

After more than 2000 games, the cup winners were decided on Saturday 10th December, bringing to a close the six day festival of volleyball on the Gold Coast, Queensland.

This year was Mazenod College’s 30th year attending the tournament and we’re extremely proud of our students from all years for representing the College at such a high level on the national stage. Our Year 8 Honours team saw an unbelievable run to the finals, where they clinched the Gold Medal game in a nail-biting win!

We’ve absolutely loved seeing the Mazenod College spirit on display and are pleased to share the emotions of the boys’ heartfelt victory in the short highlight video below.
