Principal's Post

We hope that you have had the opportunity to enjoy a well-earned summer break and are feeling refreshed and recharged. With the new school year commencing, we are hopeful and optimistic about what 2023 will bring and the opportunity to enjoy the holistic learning experiences offered by the College.

It has been wonderful to share moments of welcome and return with all year levels over the past week. All of the College Staff are back, and we are looking forward to the 2023 Academic Year with hope and optimism. We are delighted to welcome new Year 7 students with their parents and carers last Monday and feel privileged that you have chosen us for your son’s secondary education. It was equally pleasing to see Year 11 and 12 Students return on this day, exercising exemplary leadership and role modelling to which Mazenod College has become accustomed.

2023 College Leadership

In the middle of January, the College Executive Team gathered at A Country Place in Olinda for a two-day reflection program. Some of the main aims of the retreat included: To begin the year gathering ‘In the Lord’, prayerfully, collegially and socially.

  • To engage with the Oblate charism; “Know who you are in the eyes of God”
  • To utilize the Executive Team DISC report to promote team effectiveness
  • To engage with the theme; “Excellence, Every day, by Everybody”
  • To spend time on the second day in preparation for major goals for 2023.

Listed below is the composition of the 2023 College Leadership Team, who will meet weekly:

Class of 2022 Results

It is with great pleasure that I congratulate our Year 12 cohort for 2022 on their academic performance throughout the year, which is reflected in the final analysis of their VCE, VET and VCAL results. One of the strong traditions of the College is the attempt to provide a truly holistic education, one which fosters not only academic growth but also physical and social development, emotional well-being and spiritual growth, that is, the growth of the whole person. Mazenod College aims to provide holistic education and the formation of rounded and multidimensional people.

A particular highlight this year is that 48 of our students received an ATAR of 90+ which represents 28% of those receiving an ATAR at Mazenod this year. 100% successful completion of VCE, VET, and VCAL studies is remarkable. Tertiary opportunities, apprenticeships, pre-apprenticeship and employment placements have been managed by the Careers, Counselling, and VCE Pastoral Care Teams. It is particularly pleasing to see the outstanding results across our VET subjects, showing that these practical and industry-oriented pathways are becoming a more integrated part of our academic program. For the eighth year in a row Mazenod Drama will be represented in the Top Class Auditions.

All education, especially a Mazenod education, is not just for you, it is also something for the world – to be used for and shared with others. The very essence of Christian belief is that each of us is meant to share in the unfolding creation as we do what we can to build a better world, to help bring the ideal of the “Kingdom of God” closer to reality – the reign of universal justice, mercy and peace. In the years to come and in the various spheres of influence you will find yourself in, you will have much to offer and many opportunities to act out of your ideals and make our world a better place for all.

We look forward to welcoming our high achievers and their parents/carers to the Day of Excellence Assembly on Friday, 10th February. Good luck with your decisions over the next few months and congratulations once again for the way you have supported each other and pursued personal excellence in your time at Mazenod.
