The Leader In Me

ASHLEE SCOTT

Student Leadership Coordinator – Junior School

As yet another term draws to a close, we reflect on the hard work of our students, their resilience, and adaptability, particularly of the last 10 weeks. Each student has shown their ability to apply The 7 Habits daily to navigate these challenging times. Our students have not only ensured they were ok but also continued to bring smiles to the broader community through their acts of kindness.

Our students have been learning about ‘active listening’, connecting to Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood. They brainstormed what it means to be an active listener, what our body language looks like, and the responses we may give to show we have truly listened to someone. This is an important skill for all of us to be aware of and practice. With such busy lives, we can be all too consumed with letting our brain wander or putting our own thoughts, feelings, and experiences onto someone else. Being an active listener means to not interject and an answer or advice may not be required, all they may want is just a listening ear.

Our student leaders have been busy working behind the scenes, developing a campaign for our school. They collaborated and felt that mental health and wellbeing was a poignant area to address. The Year 5 Leadership Team are continuing to work on this campaign throughout Term 4 and hoping to launch later in the year. Keep your eyes peeled!
