The process of learning and assessment has been challenging this term and, as it draws to an end, students are looking forward to enjoying a well-deserved break for the next two weeks. With the knowledge that external VCAA examinations are just 6 weeks away, students completing VCE Unit 3/4 courses will need to continue to revise during this time. The completion of practice examinations should form the major part of any revision plan for these students. However, it is important that they also stop and recharge.  There is still a long way to go before the finish line is crossed.

Special programs for the last three days of the term created by Manoj Patel, Michelle Mascaro, and Melissa Fitzgerald have allowed Year 10 students the opportunity to showcase their Personal Projects, engage in important sessions about Careers, and to have some fun with Home Group staff. Engaging with staff away from the virtual classroom has been a good way to finish the term.

Year 12

Students in Year 12 received a special delivery last week from Oakleigh Grammar. So they would know they were still very much in our thoughts and that we are here to support them, each student received a box of Daniel’s Donuts. We are always only an email, phone call, or Teams message away for this group. It is an important year and can be challenging, especially as we near the end of the journey, but the students are always our priority and staff are here to support and care for their wellbeing.

Year 10 and 11

As we reach the end of term three, with the majority of the term in lockdown, the impact of COVID -19 is clear to see on our Year 10 and 11 students. Although they have been through a roller coaster ride so far, they continue to show great resilience. In pastoral, the focus has been looking after ourselves mentally so that we can continue to be the best we can be. The notion of practicing gratitude throughout these times where it is easy to slip into a negative mindset has been an area where particular attention was given.

Some students find Remote Learning a lot easier than others and push through the tough times and make the most of a bad situation. These students have been identified and recognized by their pastoral team. Congratulations to the following recipients of the ‘I can. We Will’ awards for Term 3.

Year 11 students were given the opportunity to nominate for Student Leadership positions for 2022 this week. To all those students that put their hand up, congratulations for taking that brave step to nominate to lead your peers. For those that did not put their hands up, a timely reminder that you need not hold a position of responsibility or wear a badge at Oakleigh Grammar to still be a leader. Leaders are those who see a need for change and are brave enough to say and do something about it.

We congratulate all our students for pushing through to the end of the term and look forward to seeing all our Year 10 and 11 students, as well as the rest of our student population, in the near future.

Have a safe holiday and spend some quality time away from your screens, perhaps in the outdoors.

Take care, look after yourselves and each other.
