MARK ROBERTSON

Principal

Dear Parents,

In the final edition of Grammar News for this term, I wish to refer to a famous biblical poem from King Solomon as he reflects on Hope.  ‘Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 - There is time for everything under heaven’.  King Solomon is said to have been given wisdom greater than any before him.  As he refers to seasons, let us treat this current COVID period as a season.

"To everything there is a season,

and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

A time to be born, a time to die;

a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

A time to kill, and a time to heal;

a time to break down, and a time to build up;

A time to weep, and a time to laugh;

a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;

a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

A time to get, and a time to lose;

a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

A time to rend, and a time to sew;

a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

A time to love, and a time to hate;

A time of war, and a time of peace.”

The essence of my message is that the emphasis on the Seasons in Solomon’s words is that seasons pass. So let us hold on to the hope that Solomon refers to and understand that the challenging times in our lives will pass; we are sharing this unique experience together and it is part of our life journey.  We give thanks to God that we will grow and learn from these shared experiences.  Let us continue to support each other and share our hopes and dreams for a life which more resembled pre-Covid times.

I am grateful to all within our School Community for your support, resilience, and collective understanding of our challenge this term.  Our Board, School Leadership, teaching, and non-teaching staff, parents, and students have all been steadfast in our commitment to caring and supporting those in need - sometimes an encouraging word to a friend can make a big difference.

I wish all families a healthy, safe and restful School Holiday break and I encourage you to substantially reduce your 'screen time’.

I will keep you appraised of our final term status as it unfolds over the coming break.
