Myrniong - ELC to Yr 6

Return To School for Years Three, Four, Five and Six

This week saw the anticipated staggered return of our Year Three to Year Six students. We eagerly await Tuesday 26 October when the entire Junior School - Early Learning Centre to Year Six will be back on deck at Myrniong. I must again compliment our amazing students and supportive families and their ability to continually pivot between RLP 6.1 and returning to learning in the classroom.

Class and House Assemblies

This term we have the Prep, Year Two and Year Six Class Assemblies scheduled, as well as the Berry and Laidlaw House Services. Current restrictions prevent us inviting parents onsite to be in the audience. All five will be online events. Each week, Mrs. Povey will send out a link for students and parents to access.  We look forward to sharing the students’ learning with all families in our learning community.

Week Two Star Students

The following students were nominated as Star Students for Week Two. They have been recognised by Junior School staff for their efforts in Remote Learning;

Rachel Aitken - Year Five

George Edgar - Year Five

Archie Malseed – Year Five

Alison Foster - Year Six

Laura Featherston -Year Six

Community Connection - Uniting Church Christmas Hamper

An important connection to our local Hamilton community is the Junior School’s annual support of the Uniting Church Christmas Hamper Appeal. We ask all Junior School families to assist us in helping make Christmas a little easier for less fortunate members of our local community.  The following items are requested.

  • Canned ham, fruit, vegetables and plum pudding
  • Packet biscuits, nuts and sweets
  • Long life fruit juice and milk
  • Pasta and sauces

Please, no alcohol or dumping of unwanted items from the pantry.

Each class will have a ‘Christmas Hamper Box’ in which items can be placed. The final date for donations is Monday, 6 December.

Lost for Words

Over the past few weeks my family and I have been watching the SBS Series - ‘Lost for Words’.  I highly recommend this three-part series to all parents in our learning community.  It follows eight brave adults on a life-changing opportunity to transform their lives by taking part in an intensive nine-week long adult literacy program. All have fallen through the cracks of mainstream schooling and struggle with the literacy demands of day to day living.  The series brought home to me the importance of parents regularly reading to their children and schools getting the foundation literacy skills right in the early years of education. I would suggest some tissues are handy for the third and final episode when the students are asked to write and deliver their graduation speeches.
