Welcome back to all students for Term 4. As the Year 12’s complete their work it is great to see the Year 11’s start to take on the leadership  of our great College and to set “the vibe” for the coming year. They are now the Leaders of our student cohort and the maturity and cohesiveness of these students is very obvious. There is a wonderful feeling across the College and it is an exciting time to be at Cunderdin Ag.

We are currently negotiating an opportunity for Year 12’s to do their Skippers Ticket via a weekend course in the coming weeks and as soon as that is announced I shall ask for EOI. Year 11’s will have the opportunity to back fill any vacancies and also as Year 12’s first term next year.

Following our Room Security Audit last term, the few rooms that required work have been completed. However, it appears that students are still not taking the opportunity to use their lockable drawers and safe to keep their personal items secure.  Many items that have gone missing are in fact misplaced and I hope that having names on the “coveted” hi -vis farm tops will assist with uniform loss next year. We have reminded students to bring padlocks to secure items but are working on the boarding culture whereby boarders will respect others property and their rooms are personal safe places.

A big thank you to all students who have ceased bringing aerosols to the College, there has been a marked improvement. Can I please remind all students that aerosol sprays are not permitted in rooms due to the risk they pose in setting off the fire alarms via the smoke particle detector that keep us all safe. This is a common issue across all boarding schools and I am looking at alternative holding bays for spray deodorants and perfume and aftershave but in the mean time please use roll on deodorant.

I am looking forward to attending the P  & C on Monday evening and working closely with them for great outcomes for our students for the coming year.

As a parent myself I know from personal experience that I would like to ensure the safety and well being of my children when they are not in my care. It is a fine balance between allowing them as young adults to take on responsibilities as well as ensuring they get the very best of care.  I would encourage parents and students to work with us by providing us with information should something have happened at home that may impact on them during their time away, that over the counter medication such as vitamins, anti histamines and other health directives be reported to myself or other boarding staff. I see the College boarding team as an extension of the care you provide to your children and “ a home away from home”

I have been meeting with students to discuss ways we can beautify their own rooms as well as break out spaces such as common rooms. I encourage students to bring photos, bedding, cushions etc to make their spaces comfortable and stylish. We have also been discussing at length at student council and dorm group meetings, different ideas for after school activities. Yoga, Zumba, specialised fitness classes are all in the wings to start this term.

Just a quick reminder that students driving their cars is a privilege  and has responsibilities that must be adhered to. Self drivers must hand their keys to supervisors by 7.30pm on the night of arrival. All keys must be locked away in the supervisors office for safe keeping. Students are to adhere to the 20km speed limit throughout the College grounds.
