Fresh Term, Fresh Start!

I hope that for all of our young men the holidays provided some time for reflection, relaxation and renewal. The new term provides a wonderful opportunity to make a fresh start and to set goals to achieve success in all aspects of school and personal life.

All families received a letter from Mrs Senior detailing the College's expectations in regards to Hair and Uniform. Whilst some people may suggest that these two items are not that important given the myriad of challenges faced by students today, we believe they are of great value as they highlight a student's commitment to being a proud member of the St Virgil's community. On a day to day level they show that our young men recognise the long standing traditions of the College and through their deeds are committed to upholding the values that the College is recognised for in the wider community.

We are working closely with students to provide a practical expression of our College values and examples of how boys can live these values each and every day, whether it be in the classroom, in the yard, representing the College in sport, music, chess or robotics or when on buses or in the public domain.

Our College values are:

  • Community
  • Integrity
  • Justice
  • Kindness
  • Learning

Our values shape the way in which we wish to 'form' our young men. We are committed to behaviour formation rather than behaviour management as it recognises that our boys will sometimes make mistakes and poor choices, but it is through working through these issues together that we can educate boys about their behaviour and provide them with rich learnings that help them to make better decisions in the future when faced with a range of circumstances, some of which could have life changing or serious consequences.  In this way our boys are formed in behaviour rather than behaviour managed or simply punished.

This environment provides the opportunity for all boys to start the term by putting their 'best foot forward'. Wearing our uniform proudly and correctly, conforming with our hair policy, being kind to others and giving 100% effort in class, are all simple ways that boys can make a fresh start to the term and position themselves to enjoy success in all school endeavours in Term 4.

In encouraging our boys to put their best foot forward to start the term, I would also like to sincerely thank our parents who support the College in forming our young men.

Year 10 Exams - November 16-23

Examinations for Year 10 students are rapidly approaching and we have been working with boys to encourage them to start preparing now. Developing good study habits is an important skill that boys will require now and in to the future. Having a plan will enable boys to go into exams feeling confident and relaxed. Information about exam preparations will be provided to students and will feature in coming editions of The Star.

Information about Year 10 events including the Leavers' Dinner and Thanksgiving Ceremony will be communicated via EdSmart in the coming days.
