All Things Year 10

Nothing highlights that the end of the academic year is rapidly approaching more than the sight of Year 10 in the Quad in their Leavers' Tops. Due to delays caused by COVID 19 our Leavers' tops only arrived this week much to the excitement of our Year 10s who have been counting down the days until they could wear this significant garment.

Prior to the end of the week, Year 10 parents will receive information regarding examinations and the traditional events that mark the time when our boys leave the College to embark upon the next exciting phase of their life.

This year we have initiated a new format for examinations with boys completing one exam each morning before returning home to enable them to focus upon preparations for the next day's exam.  This model is consistent with the practice for students completing exams in Year 11 and 12 and encourages boys to be independent learners. It also reinforces that  each boy is accountable to their own preparation and performance.

The EdSmart communication sent to parents will highlight the travel options available for boys to enable them to go straight home after their exam. Please identify the method of transport that your son will use to get home after the exam.

The message to Year 10 students is very clear:

 1. Exam preparations must start now; and

 2.  The work boys are completing in each and every lesson is crucial as it informs their understanding of what is required to successfully undertake exams.

Year 9s and School-Based Apprenticeships:

A number of Year 9 boys have been engaged in discussions around future pathways following participation in the Senior Years Launch on September 1. Questions in particular regarding school-based apprenticeships for next year have been coming in quite frequently. As we are fast approaching the end of the year now is the time for boys to get organised and start some research. A great place to start is the following link https://www.megt.com.au/

If boys identify are able to access an opportunity, the College has the ability to sign off on the approval of the apprenticeship once everything all paperwork and logistics have been finalised. As a College we cannot initiate anything without an employer being found and the student being registered through a training organisation.

A great starting point is the above website to begin this process.

Our Role in this Busy World

I shared the quote below from Pope Francis with staff this week to highlight the important role which we all play in the wellbeing of those around us. As young men socialise and engage with one another it is important to note that they don’t always get it right. A key learning from these experiences is appreciating the impact we have on those around us and learning from this.

As Pope Francis states, the world can be beautiful based upon the manner of our interactions with each other.
