2019 Whole School Structure and the Bright Beginnings Program

On Tuesday our students met with their new classroom teacher as a part of the Bright Beginnings Program.  The whole school transition program at Weeden Heights is outstanding and by starting the year before, our students are well ahead and beginning to develop solid relationships in order to be ready for learning at the start of the year.  Students were also given the opportunity to meet some of the new students to Weeden Heights PS who will be a part of their class next year.  As a result, I am now able to release the structure for 2019.

The 2019 structure for Weeden Heights is as follows:

  • Prep: Ms Jessica Pearse – Room 1
  • Year 1: Ms Kirra Turner – Room 3
  • 1/2: Miss Belinda Davis (3 days) /Mrs Roslyn Cole (2 days)– Room 4
  • 2/3: Mrs Aarti Arya– Room 6
  • 3/4: Mr David Saville-Room 7
  • 5/6 B : Mr Paul Keegan – Room 8
  • 5/6 A: Ms Allison McLaren– Room 9
  • Extension and Enrichment  and Library Co-ordination– Mrs Jennifer Watts (from term 2)
  • Extension and Enrichment – Mrs Rosslyn Cole
  • Physical Education : Mrs Kiralee Molnar
  • Performing Arts: Mrs Anne Peddington (second semester)
  • Visual Arts: Ms Annie Paterno (first semester)
  • STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics): Mrs Kiralee Molnar
  • Language (French): Mrs Delphine Todd
  • Garden Specialist: Miss Belinda Davis
  • Kitchen Specialist: Ms Monica Seal
  • Wellbeing Officer: Mrs Tracey McGlashan

Warm Welcome

I would like to take the opportunity to introduce a new staff member for 2019.  I know that everyone will make Ms Paterno feel welcome next year.   We look forward to dynamic displays around the school and some creative activities for our students.  Next year, our students will complete double sessions of Visual Arts in the first semester so that there can be a focus on Performing Arts in the second semester during a school production year.  This should work very well for our students, programs and staff.

So long for now:

While we welcoming some very a new staff member, we are also sadly saying farewell to a few others.  We wish them all the very best in their future, careers and family life.

  • Beth Alter – Beth has just qualified as a teacher and will be taking up her first position as a prep teacher.  We wish her all the very best and she will be a  huge success in her new role
  • Kalina Taylor – Kalina has been an integration aid in several classrooms over the last two years.  We thank her for all of her enthusiasm
  • Charmila Gunawardena – Thanks to Charmila for the work she has put into our classrooms and students over her years with us at Weeden.
  • Larissa Symec – Larissa has worked in a prep room this year as an integration aid.  We wish her all the very best in her future positions
  • Jane Nield   - Jane is returning to her fulltime job now that her son is starting prep next year.  Originally, she was a volunteer in our kitchen/garden program and eventually taught in the program for the last two years.  She has an amazing passion for our garden and we will miss you
  • Anne Powers – a huge thanks to Anne for stepping into our Arts position after Mrs Furlong became ill.  Anne has kept our Arts program moving forward and we also wish her all the best for the future.

I would like to thank these lovely ladies for all of the work that they have done with our wonderful students and the work they have completed within the school.  Farewell and good luck!

School's Annual Implementation Plan

School Council endorsed the 2019 Annual Implementation Plan based on our direction from the recent review that our staff had after evaluating our progress against the Strategic Plan to date. The A.I.P. links directly to the four-year strategic plan and we are very excited about implementing our last year of that plan.   After the plan has been signed off by the department, it will be available to our community on our website.

Parent Helpers Morning Tea

This Friday is our Parent Helpers Morning tea.  We are hoping to see our fabulous volunteers come to the special morning tea in the staffroom on Wednesday.  It is a fabulous way to recognise their significant involvement in the programs at our school.  We have a very wide range of volunteers at Weeden Heights Primary School including: parents who assist with Café Reading; volunteers in the kitchen/garden program, P & C, classroom representatives, School Council, committee members; social event organisers; working bee participants, and many, many more.

On behalf of the staff and myself, I would like to thank everyone who has participated in our programs and for the difference they have made to the learning of our students.  We certainly could not do the wonderful things that we do without you!  THANK-YOU!

Year 6 Graduation

Good luck to our year 6’s as they head towards their graduation next Monday.  They have been extremely busy all year preparing for this very special night.  I would also like to thank the Graduation Team of parents/guardians who have worked consistently to make this a worthy event.  I’m sure the room will look amazing on the night!

Christmas Awards Night Celebration

Our Christmas Concert tonight has been cancelled due to the weather.  Stay tuned for alternative arrangements.

Final Assembly

The school will hold a final assembly outside under the sails on Friday 21 December for a 1.00pm start.  We will say a final farewell to our exiting year 6 students and wish everyone a happy holiday break.

Just a reminder that students will be dismissed at 1.30pm from assembly.  If you are not available to pick up your child at that time then you will need to book them into the OSHC program for the afternoon.

The Christmas countdown is on!    If I don’t catch up with you before the end of the year, I would like to wish you all a safe and happy holiday break.  Enjoy spending time with your family and friends.

I look forward to seeing you all back again next year for another ‘action packed’ year.

Until next time,

Ms Kylie Campbell

Principal
