CANCELLED CURRICULUM DAY – WEDNESDAY 3rd JUNE
Due to recent events this day will not go ahead as planned. At this stage we are hoping to have our next planned Curriculum Day on Friday, 4th September.
SPECIAL RECOGNITION OF OUR EDUCATION SUPPORT OFFICERS
Last week we recognised, albeit from a social distance, the special and very supportive work that our Education Support Officers do. At CPS our ES Officers are our office staff, our teacher/integration aides. Over recent weeks they too have been a pivotal support here at school and with our Home Learning practices. Their kindness, flexibility and adaptability has been amazing. On behalf of the whole school community I would like to sincerely thank them for their commitment and dedication to the students, staff and parents of Carnegie Primary School.
MODIFIED HALF YEAR ASSESSMENT AND REPORTING
Given the very different semester 1 this year our half yearly reports will need to be modified significantly. Teachers are working on providing parents with succinct/brief feedback on the content that has been covered to date and student progress in literacy, numeracy and our specialist programs and a comment on the student’s adjustment to Remote/Home learning. We are not required to undertake the usual A-E reporting. Given the disruption to normal classroom learning late last term and in Term 2, it will be extremely difficult for teachers to accurately make assessments on student progress. Any relevant assessment information teachers currently have, will be used along with more comprehensive information obtained throughout semester 2, to inform teachers’ judgement of student progress at the end of the year.
DRAFT PROTOCOLS FOR RETURNING TO SCHOOL
The Department of Education has supported all schools with a number of operational guidelines in relation to safely returning to school over the coming weeks. I have prepared a document outlining the protocol we will be following here at CPS from Tuesday, 25th May when all staff and our Prep, 1 & 2 students return. I will share this ‘draft’ document with families via Compass before the end of the week. Working together on these protocols will ensure positive outcomes and a smooth transition in what are still uncertain times. We will continue to consult you and keep you well informed should circumstances change.
