Foundation (Prep)

Welcome to another week in Prep C.Please enjoy some insight into what happens in the classroom along with some photos from some of our activities.

School Photos

Please note that we will be having school photos taken on Monday. The staff will have a photo together just prior to the bell at 9am so if I am not in the classroom when you arrive I will be there as quickly as possible. Monday is a particularly important day to be on time as we are the first class to have our group photo

Numeracy

In Maths sessions this week, the children have continued to learn the correct formation for some of their numbers. Prep C also created another pictograph. We collected information about everyone's favourite ice cream flavour and discovered that vanilla ice cream and lemonade icy poles were most popular.

The students were introduced to measurement this week. We talked about three important things to remember when measuring: use an object of the same size, start at the edge and leave no gaps. As the students counted the number of Unifix cubes needed, I recorded our results on the whiteboard.

Handwriting

This week we have revised the letters c, a, d, o, g, s, f, and q. Prep C were also introduced to a new family of letters this week, i, l, b and t. Each time we look at a new letter, we talk about its name, what sound it makes and learn a little sound chant with actions, to help us remember each one.

We move through the whole alphabet in Term 1 and then continue to revisit all the letters and sounds throughout the year.

Reader's Workshop

One of our book responses this week was to Mr Brown's Magnificent Apple Tree. Students were asked to think about the story and retell a favourite part that they could remember. We also used our fine motor skills to cut and paste a picture of the apple tree on Mr Brown's farm.

Our topic for this term is Me and My Community. We have been talking about our names, finding out about our similarities and differences and discussing our families. Throughout the term we will focus on ourselves, our families and what is in and around our school.

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend.
