Our First Week of Learning

This week in Literacy we have explored a range of texts all based around the ideas of friendship, kindness and trying our best.

One of our favourite books this week was 'The world needs you to be, who you were made to be' by Joanna Gaines.

The students discussed key words from the story including what is means to be courageous, compassionate, resourceful, considerate and gracious. Student chose the word they thought best described them and wrote a sentence. Look at this amazing work your children completed.

This week in Mathematics we have been practicing our counting skills. First we began by counting collection of items by ones but found this was slow and when we needed to count a large group such as a handful of pasta it was sometimes not accurate.

Then we explored counting by twos, we found this was much quicker but many students needed practice counting beyond 20.

Finally we found that the most efficient way to count a large group of items was by tens. First we placed the items into groups of tens then we counted to check how many we had.

If you would like to practice counting skills with your children at home here are some great videos, or get out the pasta and ask them to count by ones, twos and tens.
