Prep

A warm welcome to all Prep families. What an exciting week this has been for you and your family. I am proud of all the students, they have transitioned very well into the classroom. They settled and are becoming more familiar with the classroom routine and transitions. It has been wonderful to watch them explore the classroom and be engaged and attentive during the learning tasks. Recess and lunch play has been very popular and the students are beginning to form friendships on the playground.

Maths

This week in Maths, the students are planning a tea party. The students began by drawing themselves around the tea party table, and then they had to plan what items would be  needed at the tea party and the number of each item such as teacups, teapots, scones and plates. During this number investigation activity, the students have also practised their counting skills from 0 to 10 and matching number names to numerals. On Tuesday, the students created their placemats and drew their tea party setting. Finally, the students counted and represented these objects on a graph and decided which object was the most popular at a tea party. We also played a counting game called Chicken Scramble. At the start of the game, the students grabbed a small handful of counters, then they counted counters and the students identified who had the biggest collection of counters.

Literacy

This week in literacy, the students have been listening to the big book story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. While reading the story, we discussed the concepts of print, such as reading sentences from left to right; holding the book in the correct position; the purpose of capital letters and full stops. On Tuesday, the Casey Caterpillar story was introduced to the students; Casey Caterpillar helps us form the correct shapes in handwriting. After listening to the story, the students practised writing tall sticks. In the afternoons, the students participate in fine motor skills to develop and strengthen finger muscles to support handwriting skills.

Kinect to Dance

On Thursday morning we had our first dance session with Ivy from Kinect to Dance. There were some amazing dance moves being performed by the students and teachers! Kinect to Dance classes will be taking place every Thursday morning. Students can wear their sports uniforms on Thursdays.

Thank you to all the families that have connected to the Seesaw app. Seesaw letters were placed in the students' blue folder bags on Tuesday.  If you are having any trouble connecting to Seesaw, please contact Miss Melanie.
