Bella Paw

Untitled 2021 Stoneware clay, underglazes and glaze

Bella created this sculptural pot at the end of her year 9 ceramics course. This is what she has to say about her piece:

"This clay pot was made from coils reformed to what we see now, water coming out of a volcanic lava rock. Using sgraffito to create textures and colours to visualise the story behind this ceramic piece. Everyone has different perspective so the story behind this will be left to your imagination."

Somarita Meas

Self Portrait 2021 Mixed Media

In her year 10 art class, Somarita was asked to create a series of three portraits that reflect how the Covid lockdowns and remote learning affected her mental health. For this artwork, she explored mixed media by creating a collage of newspapers and other materials which was painted over with gesso to produce the ground for subsequent drawing. She used media such as willow charcoal, soft pastel, gesso, acrylic paint, and ink to explore the art elements. The different materials used give voice to various emotions through the innate quality of the material itself.

Kylie Baluyot

Venetian Night Scene 2021 Acrylic on Paper

In year 10 Art, students study the art movement Impressionism by examining techniques such as short brush strokes and placing pure colours next to each other in order for the eye to mix the colours visually.

In this painting, Kylie of Banksia (now year 11) has emulated the goal of the Impressionists - focusing on the sense and feeling of the scene rather than creating an accurate representation. She has captured the movement and atmosphere of a warm night beside the Grand Canal in Venice. With the lights of the cafes and restaurants skilfully painted along with their reflections on the water we can imagine we are there, listening to the chatter of happy voices and the singing of the Gondolier as we eat our gelato on an after dinner stroll.

Joel Stangherlin

Godzilla Diorama 2021

Multimedia video

Joel created this digital diorama using the software Blender in his Multimedia class. The goal was to create a diorama, showcasing a genre, lighting and misc en scene in 3D. This piece is based on the Kiss of Death scene from the Godzilla vs Kong film. Joel produced the characters using Blender and went on to working on the scene with ocean water and dramatic lighting. The eyes and the kiss of death uses projected light from the surface. An animation circulating the scene was made and sound was also added.
