Junior School Report

It is with great pleasure that we have taken over the leadership of the Junior School’s at Acacia and Banksia, and thank Mrs Lynda Portelli and Ms Natalie Fode for their hard work and exceptional care of the students in recent years.

What a fantastic start the students have made to the 2022 school year.  Our first day of school saw the arrival of over three hundred new students into the College community, with the new Year 7’s looking smart in their new uniforms and ready to commence their high school journey. The first few weeks of the term have been a whirlwind of building new connections with peers, learning their way around the campus, instrumental music try-outs, house activities, school photos and the commencement of academic classes.  We also welcomed our returning Year 8 and 9 students to their respective year levels.  After a solid start to their new classes during Headstart in 2021 and a well-deserved break, the students have settled back into their classes with renewed energy and focus.

In addition to renewing connections with their peers, the students have many things to look forward to this term. Excursions have been planned for English and Humanities, incursions arranged to support respectful and safe relationships, camps planned, and we will soon have the opportunity to meet our newest families at the Year 7 Meet and Greet.

Now is the time for all students to take full advantage of being back at school, and we will be working hard to minimise the impacts of the last two years of interrupted schooling. The College’s 5P’s Student Learning Framework sets out the behaviours we expect students to display in class to be effective learners, and we ask that all our Junior school students strive to be Prepared, Present, Proactive, Productive and Persistent in all their academic endeavours.

Each new year provides students with an opportunity to develop healthy habits for academic success and social interactions.  Establishing healthy routines is key to success, especially for ensuring that the pressures of school work do not become too much.  We hope that students are proactive when seeking help from their teachers, and that parents support their children to complete coursework and homework.  Please support your child by regularly checking Compass to view your child's lesson plans for each class and to check for updates from the College.  If you have any concerns please make sure that you contact your year level Teacher Team Leader or Manager.

We look forward to working with you throughout 2022.
