Senior School Report

It has been fantastic to have students back for a new school year.  The Senior school Assistant Principals  have had the pleasure of visiting a number of Senior School classes since school began and have been so impressed with the way all our students, educational support staff and teachers have been working together.  The atmosphere of collaboration and cooperation between staff and students is something that we should be proud of as a learning community.  In the Senior School we promote our work as being in an adult learning environment and we regularly see lessons where students have been leading other groups of students in different sporting activities and learning group work tasks.  These have been engaging and very productive lessons.  There have been classes with individual differentiation of work depending on what revision students need in preparation for an assessment.  We have also seen fantastic explicit teaching of skills and information that students require. The breadth and depth of the different activities happening throughout the senior school has been really pleasing.  We congratulate all the students, the teachers and educational support staff for the start everyone has made to the year and look forward to seeing more engaging and productive lessons as we keep visiting classrooms this year. It is so pleasing to witness the 5 P’s learning behaviours (Present, Prepared, Productive, Proactive and Persistent) that positively impact our students learning in practice in our senior school classes. Keep it up everyone!!

Welcome back students and teachers for another year of learning, growing and (hopefully) an all in person experience! The Year 12 cohort are very excited to see where this year takes us as both students and growing adults. This year is our final year of high school, so we must make the most of it and take every opportunity we can - we only go through Year 12 once. Every year brings new challenges to overcome, and the past two years have been quite challenging, so let's keep striving to be our better selves! This is the build up of 13 years of learning, growing, making new friends and becoming individual people with our own thoughts and voices. This generation is destined to reshape the world into a better place.

Year 12’s are now the role models for the school, and we must set a fine example for the new generation of Keysborough Students. Valentine’s Day was a prime example of student lead activities with karaoke, photo booth and selling roses. This was all organised with the student leadership team, across all year levels and with the help of Ms Cron. It just shows that with a little teamwork and endurance, we are all capable of accomplishing anything we set our minds to.

And to the younger year levels in the school, particularly our new year 7s let us give you this advice. Get involved, be active within the school and make the most of your year here because it really will be over before you know it. Strive to achieve your personal best and live the next 6 years to the fullest, so when it comes time for you to graduate, you’ll be leaving with no regrets.

We as a cohort have faced unprecedented challenges in the lead up to the most important year of our schooling lives. Despite the build up to this final year not being as any of us anticipated, we’re proud of the people we’ve become to get here and am excited to see what the remainder of this year will bring.

Is it hard to be away from home? Yes, it is. A lot of International Students had to face many problems such as cultural shock, language barrier, difficulty understanding the lectures.... and many more. As an International student I understand that studying in a new place, away from your home country and family is a very difficult thing for everyone, especially those for whom English is not their first language. It’s a struggle to fit in a new environment, and I myself, also went through this before. There were many times I wanted to give up on everything but eventually I got used to the environment and was also able to make new friends. The pandemic has not made life easy for anyone, especially the International Students as we couldn't see our family for over 2 years. Be proud that you've made it this far. Don't give up! Best wishes to all you guys! Put in your best effort, and success will be yours! Always be here to help you guys, feel free to contact me when you need :)
