Catholic Schools Week
Monday 28 February to Friday 4 March, 2022
Catholic Schools Week is being celebrated across our system of schools next week, from Monday 28 February to Friday 4 March, 2022.
This year the focus is on a commitment to every child’s, teacher's and staff member’s individual purpose and the part we all play in the Mission of the Catholic Church, to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ and his message of building the reign of God’s love on earth.
One way Kildare Catholic College contributes to co-creating the reign of God’s love on earth is through supporting Caritas’ Project Compassion throughout the season of Lent.
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, 2 March 2022 and will be commemorated in House groups. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Church’s season of Lent. The marking of the Ashes on this day is a public expression of our faith and repentance. It is a time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving.
Prayer brings us closer to God.
Fasting joins us in solidarity with the poor.
‘Almsgiving’, sharing what we have with others is a sign of our commitment to justice and our thanks for all that God has given us.
Lent prepares us for the season of Easter, the most important time in the Church’s calendar. By praying, fasting and giving alms, we are reminded of Jesus’ death and Resurrection. Jesus brought the promise of hope to all people so that we may “Have life and have it to the full.” (John 10:10). May we be encouraged to work ‘for all future generations’ in our lives, and in the lives of others.
Ongoing support of Project Compassion will be encouraged in Homegroups over the six weeks of Lent. Students may choose to fast from their usual Maccas run, morning coffee, chocolate snack, movie night, extra phone data reload … and donate this money to their Homegroup’s Project Compassion collection.
Our goal is to raise $4000 for Caritas during Lent in 2022.
In continuing to develop our Mission and Catholic Identity, Fr Paddy is offering Mass at 8.00am in T7 each Tuesday morning and all members of the Kildare College Community are welcome! The setting is informal, relaxed and provides an opportunity to connect to our God and each other in a prayerful way.
