Byrne's Shield Cricket

After winning the toss and choosing to bowl, Jacob Hastie (0/10) and Tom Nimmo (0/20) took the new ball and kept Kooringal High quiet in the opening overs. After the opening overs, Joe Morton (3/5) came into the attack and dismissed both the openers, aided by some great catching from Cooper Manson who took an absolute hanger! Nick Madden (1/10) soon followed with a thumping wicket of his own before Joe took his third wicket and Cooper made yet another ripping catch to have Kooringal 4/47 after 10 overs. After the drinks break Cooper (3/4) and Connor Manson (3/3) came into the attack and took a 6/7 to clean up the tail in 4 overs to end the innings. Despite Harry Hastie’s poor slips catching Kooringal High were bowled all out for 54. Brad Koetz (28*) and Nick Madden (11) were then sent out to open the batting and made a quick start hitting 30 runs in 4 overs. Nick was then dismissed bringing Harry Hastie (16) to the crease who hit 2 sixes and a four to end the match in a win for Kildare. Kildare will now play next Monday against Mater Dei for a spot in the final.

Semi - Final v MDCC
Kildare bowled first in their semi-Final v MDCC on Monday at Mark Taylor Oval. The bowlers did a good job of restricting MDCC to a modest total of 118, with Tom Nimmo being the pick of the bowlers with an outstanding spell. The team was confident of achieving the required 6 an over run rate with a strong batting line up. Despite some lives for our batsmen, we were unable to take advantage, and ultimately fell 19 runs short of the MDCC total after 20 overs. Max Prest was the pick of the batsmen and kept our hopes of reaching the MDCC total on track for much of the innings. A disappointing result but the whole team applied themselves admirably throughout the day.
We now play Wagga High next Monday in the 3rd/4th play off. A win would result in promotion to Pool A next year.
