Prayer

At Assembly on Monday Mr Di Sano's Year 8 Religious Education class read this prayer taken from 1 Corinthians 13 for St Valentine's Day.  We know that as well as celebrating love with all the commercial aspects of the day, we also need to celebrate love with sacrifice, honesty, openness and commitment.

Disturb us, Lord, when we are too pleased with ourselves, or when our dreams have come true but we have dreamed too little and not challenged ourselves enough.

Disturb us, Lord, when we long for more and more despite everything we own

or, we fall in love with our possessions,

and forget about the people we should love instead.

Disturb us, Lord when, we don’t share what we do not need or

give to others what could serve them better than us.

Disturb us, Lord when, even though we know we should,

we fail to respond to someone’s call for help,

or look the other way and shift uncomfortably in our seats

hoping no-one will notice we failed to answer that call.

Disturb us, Lord, to dare to be more bold, to venture more widely to push back the horizons of our hopes; to aspire to inspire in this new school year ahead pursuing our dreams with opportunity and hope

Amen

'The Year of the Tiger'  St Pius X College celebrates Chinese New Year

The College Assembly this week was simply brilliant with the celebration of the Chinese New Year led by our Senior students and Year 5. I share with you some of the singing of our Senior students and the Year 5 boys as well.

The message was one of peace and harmony. The students are very impressive in their mastery of the Chinese language and also for getting involved. Congratulations to Mrs Manga and Mrs Lee who prepared the students.

Opening Mass and Academic Awards Ceremony

Next Tuesday the College will hold two major events at Oxford Falls.  Our Opening College Mass and Academic Awards Ceremony will be held with all students attending the Mass, commencing at 10.00 am.  We will be acknowledging our 85th Anniversary at the Mass, with old boy, Bishop Peter Ingham celebrating Mass.  Students in Years 8 to 12 will then attend the Academic Awards Ceremony, commencing at 12.00 pm, and will return to the College at 2.00 pm.

Students in Years 5 and 6 will return to the College after the Mass.  Year 7 will attend their usual Tuesday afternoon of PDHPE, and Mr Stollery has advised Year 7 parents and students of their requirements for the day.

Parents and carers are very welcome to join both the Mass and Awards Ceremony online and the links are below.

Premier's Reading Challenge Medallists

Congratulations to Cameron Masters, Harry Feehan, Jonathan Hartry, Liam Boswell, Samuel Cummins and Samuel Hollinger who were awarded the prestigious Premier's Reading Challenge Medal at Assembly on Monday.  This is the highest award in the PRC and recognises the outstanding commitment to reading by completing the Challenge every year from Year 3 to Year 9 (2015 - 2021).  What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that state-wide, less than 1% of students who start the challenge complete it.

Junior School Parent Teacher Meetings

Next Monday and Tuesday the Junior School teachers are holding online 'Tell us about your son' Parent Teacher Meetings.  These meetings will go for 10 minutes. Details of how to make an appointment will be emailed to parents from Mrs Greenwood later this week.

Monday 21 February appointments:  8.00 am – 8.30 am and 3.10 pm – 6.30 pm

Tuesday 22 February appointments: 8.00 am – 8.30 am and 3.10 pm – 4:30 pm

What a Great Return to Competition Sport!

I was excited to be at Oxford Falls on Saturday for our first full competition round of the year.

The Junior School was buzzing as many of the students competed for the first time at Oxford Falls. They did a great job.

The Senior School, our ISA Cricket and Basketball teams played with outstanding spirit and determination. Our First XI Cricket won convincingly against St Gregory’s College and the First V Basketball were my team of Week with a narrow loss to St Augustine’s. Our boys kept challenging and showed a huge improvement in all aspects of their game. It is going to be a great season!
