Principal's message

Dear Parents/Carers,
PREP ENROLMENT-2023
Warrnambool Primary School is now accepting Prep enrolments for the 2023 school year. Enrolment information has been sent to kindergartens for parents to collect. We will be holding a Prep information evening on Wednesday 25 May 2022 from 5:30pm. This coincides with our Education Week activities and whole school open night. If you are considering enrolling a Prep child in 2023 please come along and see what our great school has to offer. Tours are also being held during the week commencing 30th May 2022. Bookings are essential through the school website http://www.warrnamboolps.vic.edu.au/enrolments. If you know anyone who might be considering enrolling their child at Warrnambool Primary School please pass this information onto them.
OPEN NIGHT Wednesday 25 May 2022 5:30pm to 6:45pm
As part of Education Week we are holding an open night on Wednesday 25 May 2022. It’s a great opportunity for parents to drop into the school and see what is happening in your child’s classroom. There will be a whole school gathering in the B.E.R at approximately 6:15pm where year level displays and other presentations will take place. There may also be some prizes as giveaways. We would love to see as many parents/carers, grandparents and friends as possible.
NAPLAN 2022
The National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) commences on Tuesday 10 May 2022 for all Year 3 and 5 students. This Nationally co-ordinated program is undertaken by all government and non-government schools. The aim of the program is to monitor the progress in Numeracy, Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation. Both Year 3 and Year 5 cohorts will be completing their first NAPLAN programs. It is also the first time that we will be doing them digitally. Only the Year 3 Writing component is being completed on paper. Please encourage your child to try their best but also ensure that they do not feel pressured during this week. Students who are absent are able to make up their tests in the following week.
PREPARING FOR NAPLAN
NAPLAN is not a test that children can prepare for in the same way they might prepare for an end of term test. NAPLAN tests skills that develop and improve over time. These are skills that should be continuously developed throughout the year and not just in the lead-up to NAPLAN.
The best way to get your child ready for NAPLAN is to continue to develop literacy and numeracy skills. Your child’s teacher will be able to give you advice on how to help encourage development of these skills at home.

CROSS COUNTRY
We dodged the rain last Friday for the Year 3-6 Cross Country at Albert Park. This was in stark contrast to the P-2 Cross Country on Wednesday. The students did a great job walking to and from the venue but also participating and behaving in a positive way, ensuring that it was a pleasant day overall. Well done to Cherine Owen and all staff who organised this great event. The highlight was watching students try their hardest to complete the course under the encouragement of their classmates. We must continue to promote exercise and fitness across the school so that our students are able to feel their best. We congratulate those students who have progressed to the next level.
