Rubbish Rebel Waste

Exciting news!
Somerville Primary school has been selected as a finalist in the ResourceSmart Schools Sustainability Victoria awards for community engagement on sustainability topics.
We are so thrilled with this and can’t thank our SPS community enough.
Selected students will travel to the MCG in June for the award ceremony.
Water
This term our school focus in Environmental Science is on water – how we use this precious resource, where it comes from, how we can conserve water and the process of treating water.
Easter egg foil ball competition
The Easter egg foil ball competition wraps up this week and my goodness have we had fun with this competition. The students have been eagerly awaiting the outcome of the competition and carefully collecting all of their Easter egg and bunny foil in square pieces over the holidays.
The reason we roll it into a ball is because Aluminium Foil is recyclable but only if it is the size of a tennis ball due to its light weight quality if it is not rolled into a tennis ball size it will simply float off the recycling conveyor belt and be unable to be recycled. Remember you can roll your aluminium foil into a ball at home, keep it. Ear your recycling bin and when it is as big as a tennis ball it can go into your kerbside recycling to be used as a new product! We will announce the winner of this competition next newsletter.
