From the Counsellors
Welcome, Olivia!
The St Mary's College Wellbeing team is excited to welcome our newest counsellor, Olivia Dorsett.
Olivia will be providing wellbeing support with a Junior focus (Kinder to Year 6) while our Junior School Counsellor, Taylor Fletcher is on maternity leave, commencing June 2022.
Olivia has a bachelor's degree in Psychological Science and is currently studying a Master of Social Work at the University of Tasmania.
She has a love for working with young people and has several years' experience as a swimming instructor, having worked at several Hobart pools, specialising in learn to swim levels and water orientation classes.
Olivia has a special interest in crisis support, suicide—pre- and post-intervention, family support and supporting those who are bereaved by suicide. She has previously worked as a Crisis Supporter for Lifeline Australia on the 13 11 14 phone line, where she gained thorough understanding of trauma and the way this can affect a young person's world.
Building on this knowledge and experience, she is committed to providing trauma-informed care to the young people she will support in her new role at St Mary's College.
Olivia is available Monday to Friday to discuss any concerns you may have about your child.
Beneath every behaviour is a feeling. Beneath every feeling is a need. And when we meet that need rather than focus on the behaviour, we begin to deal with the cause, not the symptom.
