Term 1 recap
We kicked the year off with the JSSATIS soccer roster. The short roster provides individuals and teams with a taste of playing soccer in an encouraging and non-threatening environment and hopefully, encourages players to join their local club and ultimately, start a lifelong involvement in sport to continue beyond primary years.
Pictured, back row L–R: Madeline, Penny, Cadence, Valentina, Milla and Beatrice; front row L–R: Lola and Amelia.
Flippa ball is always well supported and this year has been no exception. We were able to enter four teams in the Term 1 roster. It’s not an easy roster to commit to every Sunday afternoon/evening, but each and every one of our players did it, week in, week out and with a smile, always giving 100 per cent.
For the first time in many years, we entered a Year 5/6 tennis team in the JSSATIS tennis roster. We had a team of two and I am proud to say that Ellie Richardson and Mia Styles, both Year 5 students, represented our College with amazing respect, and showed great relationships. Ellie and Mia made a very strong team which at times resulted in the girls splitting to play for opposing teams to help even the competition. They were a pleasure to watch.
A huge thank you to Iris Bouwmeester in Year 11 who coached our team. Iris’ knowledge of the game and her gentle guidance was conveyed with incredible maturity and responsibility.
Our annual JSSATIS AFL Girls Gala afternoon was held in the last week of Term 1. Although we didn’t get enough players to field our own team, we were able to join with Mount Carmel College and participate. I think the smile of the girls faces after the last match showed just how much of a success the afternoon was!
The girls were ably coached by SMC parent, Jonathan Brimfield who, with incredible encouragement and enthusiasm, guided the girls through two games where every player showed marked improvement. We may just have uncovered a few budding AFLW players!
Our Term 2 rosters are now underway—stay tuned to hear about our netball, water polo, hockey and flippa teams in coming editions of the Fountain.
Junior School Cross Country
What a glorious day we were blessed with last Tuesday for the running of our annual cross country carnival.
