Year 5/6 Westonia Trip

On Tuesday 10th May the Year 5/6's attended an excursion to Westonia. After a short recess and play at the local playground we went to the Hood-Penn Museum to be immersed in the culture and lifestyle of the 1920s. We completed a treasure hunt and mine simulator experience. Following this, Ed, a geologist from Edna May mine met us at the lookout and talked to us about rocks, quartz and gold mining in our area. We had a look at different samples and we given a rock mined from Edna May to take home.

A quick lunch break meant we could explore Sandford Rocks. Unfortunately we didn’t have enough time to complete the whole walking loop but managed to get to a beautiful wave formation. Thank you to Linda Vernon and Amber Silinger for assisting on the excursion. It was great to hear from Linda who shared lots of her local knowledge with us. Thank you to Miss Bolt for organising such an enriching experience for the students and to the Mukinbudin P&C for contributing towards the bus cost.

National Simultaneous Story Time- Wednesday 25th May

National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its 22nd successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.

This year's book was 'Family Tree' by Josh Pyke.  It started with a seed, and that seed was me.And, over time, laughter filled my garden...A heartfelt celebration of family, community and the seasons of life, to cherish and to share.

The Year 5/6 and K/PP class listened to the book and then hunted for some leaves and made pictures out of them through rubbings, drawings and gluing them.  This was thoroughly enjoyed by all of the student's.

Junior Development Day- Friday 27th May

The Year 3-6 student's have had a lovely day in the sunshine at the Junior Development Day in Bencubbin.  This is an annual event and the day comprises of students participating in football, netball and hockey clinics run by experienced coaches in their sports.  This day has strong links to the Health and Physical Education curriculum, and allows for students to gain more confidence in the Winter Sports that are played in the Wheatbelt.  Thank you to the Central Wheatbelt Winter Sports Leagues and Executive Officer, Gina Boyne, for all of the organisation behind the scenes to allow our students to access such experienced professionals.
