PRINCIPAL UPDATE

Dear Families

COVID:

We have had a number of questions around the current rules/ guidelines.

In simple terms Covid in our school:

Close contact: someone in the family is a confirmed case

Children are still able to come to school if they

  1. Undergo 5 RAT tests in the week.
  2. Wear a mask while at school. (Students 8 and above)
  3. If they show symptoms then need to be tested and if positive isolate.
  4. This applies to staff and students.

We continue to follow the medical advice around:

  1.  Social distancing.
  2. Staying home if unwell.
  3. Ventilation in classroom.
  4. Working outside where practical.

Obviously if anyone tests positive we all must follow the guidelines and isolate for 7 days.

 District Cross Country:

Congratulations to all competitors who represented our school at this event last Thursday. 100% effort and support of others was certainly on display. Thank you to all the parents and extended family members who came along to support.

Thanks also to Jason Cole and Mr C who organised and marshalled the competitors.

Newsletter:

We have trialed a new format for our newsletter over the past few weeks. Please provide some feedback via phone, pen and paper or through email on the new format, so we can make any adjustments.

Attitudes to School Survey:

Each year the Department requires schools to conduct a survey of our year 4, 5 and 6 students to gain some feedback on a range of subjects including students reflections on their learning and health and wellbeing issues. A more detailed correspondence will be sent to all families in these year levels.

The survey is voluntary and parents have the option of their child/children not completing the survey.

As a school we use the data generated to inform us of how the students think about their learning and their thoughts on the program we provide.

Calendar:

Please keep an eye on the school calendar and emails, the term is a busy one with activities happening each week. This is particularly relevant in the 5/6 area.

NAPLAN:

All year 3 and 5 completed the Writing component of these assessments today. The students are encouraged to do their best (they always do) and to keep these assessments in their place- they are a single assessment which will help us cater for their learning needs.

Assessments missed due to illness can be “caught up” next week so if your child is ill it is best to keep them home and let us catch up the assessments when they feel better and obviously give the best indication of their learning.

Thanks to the Year 3 and 5 staff and our coordinator Monica Weiland who have organised and supported students. The online format is a new one for our students but we have been heavily invested in online learning over the pandemic / off site learning period so our children are experienced at presenting their learning through this medium.

Allergies:

We have a number of students who have various allergies. We have specific plans in place for each of these students. Most of your assistance comes from, as much as possible refrain from nuts and nut products being part of the lunch box. We also discourage sharing of food at school just in case a product slips through.

Grounds:

It is great to observe the use of the grounds after school and on weekends. The respectful use is a terrific part of a community engagement at Chilwell. Please continue to use the grounds and discourage any misuse of the facilities. The environment of our school is a great asset because we do look after it.
