Term 3 has started off in a busy fashion where students are engaging in a number of programs and topics.

Transition Year 8 into Year 9

Planning is underway for our Transition Session on August 26 from 4pm. Look out for messages through Compass for bookings and further details.

Years 7 /8  @ GITTC

The 7/8 students at NBC spend time at the GITTC campus once a week and experience a wide variety of subjects that are offered by experienced staff.

They rotate through the different subjects over a 2 year period and new and innovative subjects like Robotics are on offer. It is fantastic to see our students engaging in cooking, woodwork and textiles. This program supports our transition to the Goldsworthy campus and is highly enjoyed by the students as demonstrated by the comments shared!

Year 9 Attendance

The year 9 team at Goldsworthy are focusing on improving student attendance. Each term we are planning celebration lunches and spot prizes for students who have an attendance rate of 95% and above.

Two of our 95% or above attendees for week 1 and 2 of Term 3 are Billy Roberts and Sher K’Prui (Sherk) from 9F.

I spoke to the boys about why attendance is important. They were happy to share their answers!

Billy – “I believe that it's important to come to school consistently because it shows that you are always ready to learn and have the right attitude towards school in general. If you don’t have a good attitude towards school, it just makes you not want to bother getting out of bed and going to school. And if you don't go to school every day you miss out on key components of the subjects, and that’s what can give you skills for future jobs that you may do.”
Sherk- "If we are here to learn, then the future is no concern"

Well done to both of you! Keep up your great work.

Congratulations to the following amazing Year 9 students who have 100% attendance for week three!

Next week we will be giving out some spot prizes for students who have 100% attendance in all of their classes - this includes being in every class, every day, through the remote learning period. So be there!!!

Year 9 Remote Learning Meme Challenge:

To build some connection during lockdown, students in their remote learning mentor groups were given the challenge of finding and sharing some memes that they thought summed up remote learning. Here are some of the examples they came up with:

Year 9 Science exploring ‘duty’ using the Moral Machine simulation:

As part of Science this term, students are learning about ethics, deciding what we think is right and wrong and how we know it. As part of this, during remote learning students were asked to use the Moral Machine, a simulation that asked them to decide how a self-driving car with broken breaks should make life and death decisions.

Students made decisions themselves for each scenario and then shared and discussed their reports. Along the way they identified patterns in their choices and decided what duties would be most important for the car to follow in the real world.
