Positive Education

Term 2

Kooramook

On the third, sixth and ninth week of each term our community of students and staff gather together in their Kooramook groups. These groups are cross age, Foundation to Grade 6 and spend a session together exploring wellbeing.  Last week during Kooramook, the children had quite a discussion around ‘Fairness versus Equality’. Does being fair mean treating everyone equally? Groups acted out different scenarios and problems to highlight Fairness.

The children answered the question, “What are ways we can show fairness at our school?”

1. Treat all people fairly.

2. Cooperate with one another.

3. Be respectful and listen to what others have to say.

4. Be willing to do what is best for everyone.

5. Play by the rules at all times; be a good sport.

6. Include others in games and activities. Don’t leave people out.

7. Understand that being fair doesn’t always mean the same treatment in every circumstance. For example, some people might not be able to walk down steps if they are in a wheelchair.

8. Stand-up for someone you see being treated unfairly.

Afterwards, all children were involved in helping to create a whole school display highlighting our focus character strength - fairness.
