Save The World - STEM

Recently we ran a pilot STEM project week, “Save The World”, for year 7 and 8 students. Students applied to be part of the week where they would be working collaboratively to tackle United Nations Sustainability Goals using a range of digital technologies.

It was fantastic and easily the most uplifting and productive week that I have ever spent with students. Each day the students were enthusiastic, well behaved, creative, resourceful, constructive, supportive and fun to be with!

Using design thinking they tackled problems from equality to climate change and taught themselves how to build websites, code apps, use AR and 3D print! It was amazing how passionate they were about their chosen goals, and how knowledgeable they became about their proposed solutions.

Throughout the week students were interviewed and surveyed to get their feedback on the experience. Their responses were incredibly positive across the board and hopefully this will have an impact on future approaches to teaching and learning at Northcote High School.

Thank you to all of the parents and guardians who allowed their child to take part and for the positive feedback through email and discussions at the showcase of work during The Festival of Thinking.
