National Design Competition Winners!

During Design and Technology Week in October many of our students took part in So You Think You Can Design, a national design competition run by Design and Technology Teachers' Association of Australasia (DATTA Aus).

Last Week at the DATTA Australia Research Conference (DATTArc) the delegates, teachers and international researchers, all voted on the top 10 shortlisted entries.

The top 3 entries, all attempting to solve a personal, local or global problem, would each win a 3D printer. The quality of the work this year was excellent and there were lots of entries from each state.

Northcote High Students won 1st and 2nd place!!!

Marc Wion in Year 8 won 1st place for his pop up shelter design.

Tom Poletti in Year 10 won 2nd place with his safety cycling seat with built in indicators.

Charlie Faubel in Year 11 was also in the shortlisted top 10 with a device to help protect children at risk.

This is an amazing achievement for these students and validation of our work with students around tackling big issues in the Design Faculty.

Here are Marc and Tom receiving their prizes!

This is also the 2nd year we have won So You Think You Can Design, doing so in 2016 when it was a State competition, and I think this proves that we know we can design!

Stay tuned also for news on Top Designs as we have had 5 Product Design and Technology students shortlisted this year, from wood/metal/plastics & textiles. Fingers are crossed that one or two make it through to the final exhibition at Melbourne Museum next year.
