Further Vanessa Hamilton 'Talking the Talk' parent sessions

Earlier in the term we welcomed Vanessa Hamilton to SKiPPS to provide an incredibly well-recieved sexuality and relationships program to students, staff and parents. Called 'Talking the Talk', the program touched on body safety, consent, sex and sexuality in an age appropriate way.

The 90 minute parent session in particular provided some important messages about how families can best approach discussions and education around this area at a time when damaging and confusing messages around sex are all too easy for our children to access.

Vanessa has informed us that she will be running two further free 'in person' sessions for parents later in the year, provided by the City of Yarra.

On Wednesday 9th June she will run a session for parents and carers of 4-12 year olds which will be similar in content to the Zoom session run for our community. This will be a great opportunity for anyone who missed out on our session in April. Tickets can be booked using this link.

For those families with older children, on Tuesday 10th August she will be running a further session for parents of 11 - 17 year olds which will explore these subjects in a way more appropriate for parents of children attending secondary school.

Tickets for this second session can be booked here

Parent Helpers at SKiPPS

Thank you to those parent/carers who attended the Parent Helpers Information session last Friday. It was great to see so many enthusiastic helpers and I look forward to working with you at school this year. I want to thank you for volunteering to help provide the best possible education for our students. You have an important role in their success. Your presence in the school will provide the staff with valuable help in giving individual and small group assistance. In whatever way you choose to help, whether it be in the classroom, garden, kitchen, library, visual or performing arts rooms you can be sure your contribution is needed and valued.

If you are interested in volunteering at the school and were not able to make it last Friday please feel free to contact Michelle Bove on michelle.bove@education.vic.gov.au  for a copy of the information booklet.

Education Support Personnel Appreciation Day

Each year schools recognise and celebrate the contribution the vital roles our Education Support (ES) play in our schools.  SKiPPS employs nine ES staff whose roles include Office Management, Kitchen Garden Specialist, First Aid and support for students funded under the Program for Students with Disabilities (PSD).  The school cannot function effectively without the support and commitment of our ES staff who work alongside teachers to support students and staff.

Last Tuesday it was the teaching staff who thanked our wonderful ES members who go above and beyond each day at school to support the students in both the classroom, playground.

Our wonderful ES Staff include:

  •  Nova and Kat in the Office
  •  Betty our Kitchen Garden Specialist
  •  Education Support in classrooms are Jessie, Wendy, Seda, Prue, Amy and Mikaela
