Music Matters

Congratulations to Mr Sam Schyvens and our Junior Drama Ensemble for their presentations last Friday morning. The students presented scenes based on themes ranging from fellowship to conflict. The students were able to use a range of dramatic skills including props and costume. There was even a student who joined the group on the day who was incorporated into a scene based on the incident of 9/11. We look forward to what these students will bring to the performing arts in future years and to the contribution that Sam has made in his short time as an Ensemble Director at the College.

Well done to the students who contributed to the celebration of 200 years of Catholic Schools in Australia. The celebration at OLD Church was a major event in our calendar and I was proud of our involvement. A big thank you to Mr Primrose-Heaney and Ms Stephanie Gan for their support of our students at this event.

Congratulations to Justin Park of Year 11 for his performance at the Rotary Club Scholarship concert at the Zenith Centre. Justin was nominated as the SPX representative at this prestigious event which features music students from various schools from within the Willoughby and Ku-Ring-Gai Councils. Justin is our lead saxophonist in our Senior Concert and Jazz Bands and also contributes as a clarinetist in our orchestra. He is also studying Music 2 for his HSC. Good luck Justin and I will report on his performance next week.

Drama Matters

On Sunday we finally finished filming our Climate Movie: Not Dead Yet – St Pius. As mentioned previously this project has morphed into 4 separate movies under the umbrella of climate change. Having filmed the previous movies that covered Ocean, Air and Land, our final film is based on students arriving at the college after a state of emergency has been declared. They arrive not quite knowing what they will do or how things will pan out. Without giving too much away let’s say they get hungry, very hungry!!! The students worked really hard and it was a long but rewarding day. Now it is over to our four editors to bring the project to a close. We are looking forward to presenting the films in Term 3.
