Fixtures for this Saturday

Orange Weekend Away – 17 July 2021

St Pius X College travel to Kinross Wolaroi School on Saturday 17 July. Traditionally, many families use this as a weekend to enjoy some time away and to that end, the Rugby Supporters Club have organised dinner on the Friday night at the Lord Anson and put rooms on hold at the Mercure Hotel. More information will be provided in next week's Woodchatta.

A bus will be available for those students who cannot make their own way to Orange which will depart Anderson Street Chatswood at 6:15 am and return at the conclusion of the 1st XV match. Students will be asked to sign up to get the bus with the coaches over the coming weeks.

Rugby Supporters' Club Committee Fundraising Events

The St Pius X Rugby Supporters' Club raise funds that go directly back into the Rugby program. In previous years, the Supporters' Club has provided significant funds for external coaching, rugby specific physio, tour contributions, tour clothing and kit etc.

Last year due to COVID-19, fundraising was put on hold, meaning the club is desperate to re-coup funds to contribute again during the 2021 season.

At last night’s Rugby Committee meeting, it was agreed that the three fundraising focuses this season would be a Monster Raffle, the Rugby Club Dinner (on Friday 30 July) and the Golf Day, held later in the year.

The success of these events relies on the support of everyone in the Rugby Community. Please support the events above through your attendance and through selling raffle tickets when they become available.

Another way you could help is by reaching out to your known contacts to donate prizes for the raffle and Rugby dinner. In the past, prizes have included accommodation in venues like Noosa and the Hunter Valley, services like photography sessions provided, not to mention memorabilia, tickets to events, toys or sporting gear for children, money can’t buy experiences with celebrities or adrenaline based activities to name a few. The rugby supporters committee is asking the community to come together and consider how they, or someone they know could donate to these events.

Please contact myself: JLynch@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au or Rugby Club President Paul O’Neill: paoneill21@gmail.com if you can contribute in any way.

Rugby Registration  - MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE ISA SEASON!

All Year 7-12 students wishing to play rugby are required to be registered to be included in a team, allowing the school rugby administrators & coaches to best prepare for the coming season, plus allow your P&F Rugby Club to best support and communicate with you! There are no trials or grading days, all students of different shapes, sizes and abilities can find a home within the SPX Rugby Program.

2021 Rugby Season Registration: $150 (cost includes season registration & access to rugby specific physio during the season)

Football

A good weekend of results on the weekend was highlighted by the 1st XI's emphatic 6-1 victory. Special mention to Oscar Martin for scoring 4 goals, taking his season tally to 23 goals.

Playing football for St Pius X College is a commitment which the students have made and it is expected that all players attend all matches and trainings.  Students have direct communication with their coaches through the College’s Microsoft Teams setup if they need to communicate any issues in advance.

IMPORTANT 13A INFORMATION: The 13A’s are playing in Bathurst on 5 June with a kick off time most likely of 12.00 pm.  Attendance of players is compulsory and we would encourage parents to organise carpool and transport arrangements.

This weekend sees both home and away fixtures with fields located at the following locations:

Walsh, Watkins and Chaplin: 1 Dreadnought Rd, Oxford Falls

SPC 2: Francis St, Strathfield

Moore Park Synthetic: Lang Rd, Moore Park.

Training for Week 7: U15’s need to bring their sneakers for Futsul on Monday 31/5, there is NO TRAINING on Wednesday 2/6 due to staff meeting.

Good luck to all teams this weekend.

ISA Tennis

We had some tough competition last weekend with all of our teams playing against Oakhill College. Although we had saw some impressive gameplay, overall it was our lower divisions who were victorious. Congratulations to Divisions 11, 14 and 16 and to Division 10, who won on a forfeit.

Please take note of the venues below. St Andrews College has changed their venue for this weekend and our Division 1, 3, 5, 11 teams will be playing at Sydney Boys High. Division 7 will be playing against Oakhill College at the Kotara Park Courts in Marsfield.

WHEN WE HOST CATHERINE MCAULEY COLLEGE, WESTMEAD AT SPX THIS FRIDAY.

This Friday we host Catherine McAuley College, Westmead. Our meeting room is the Year 10 Blue Room. Seating will be arranged both inside and outside the Blue Room.

Thank you again for attending our debate nights. It makes such a difference when the students have an audience—their confidence expands, and they enjoy the night so much more. Grandparents and doting Aunts and Uncles are welcome. Parents can drive down Kirk Street and park in the school yard on the night.  The Blue Room is near the Ferguson Lane entrance, but this is only a pedestrian access point. The Anderson Street side door will be open for the night. We look forward to seeing you all. No masks are required but we all need to register using the school QR code once on site. Times for commencement of debates is approximate but our timeline for the night is noted above.

Congratulations to all SPX students for their leadership last Friday evening.  Wins on the night were awarded to:  12B, 11B, 9A, 9B, 8A, 7A. (WOW…check out those consistent wins 😊)

Congratulations to all.

Winter Squash

St Pius X College hosted some great competitive matches in the NSW Squash Junior Pennant at Willoughby last Saturday.

The firsts had a nail-biting victory over Knox, with Luke Massa maintaining his undefeated record leaving Ben Christensen to step up and play the match of the day. Ben displayed great tenacity in turning around his previous defeat against this opponent with a gutsy 3-2 marathon victory. Leaving nothing left in the tank, Ben was helped up from the ground by teammates and supporters after winning the last rally!

SPX 3 continue to impress with all three Year 12 players improving every week, recording a solid victory over Barker. SPX 4 were also too good for Barker in their match up, winning 2-1.

SPX 5 showed promise despite going down to the Falcons. Congratulations to Jonah Gonzales, Peter Yasterboff and Ethan Griffin for displaying a positive attitude and great improvement of skills.

For the first time on Saturday, we were well supported by some of our Year 12 students who came down to Willoughby to cheer on their mates. I’m sure this helped us get over the line on some occasions and was most appreciated. Thank you to all supporters and I encourage all students from any years, to join us at our Willoughby home centre to offer support.

Senior Swimming

This Friday, 28 May, Nicholas Gladen will be swimming at the NSW All Schools Swimming Carnival representing the CIS. This is an amazing achievement to say the least. He will be competing in the 50m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke and the 100m Backstroke. The College wishes him luck.

We are also happy to announce that Nicholas has also been selected in the Swimming NSW Performance Pathways Sharks Squad. His selection was based on his fantastic results at the Nationals a few weeks ago. This squad identifies future swimmers in his age group. He now has a chance to develop himself as an emerging athlete within swimming. This is a great opportunity for Nicholas. We wish him well for the future in and out of the College.
