Musica Viva Live Music Performance

On May 28, we will be lucky enough to host a live concert by musicians from the group ‘Mara’ for all our K-6 students. In the Music in my Suitcase program the Mara! band share songs from many different cultures that they learnt abroad and right here in Australia.

They use music as the common language because it is fun and it helps us to understand and connect with others, which can change our lives. Students will engage in listening to and participating in a range of songs from around the world, broadening their awareness and appreciation of the rich culture of music from Australia and beyond. This will be a fantastic event for all our JS students.

Leanne Sullivan – Brass Workshop

This week, our JS brass students were fortunate to attend a workshop with a professional trumpet player, Leanne Sullivan.

Leanne grew up in regional NSW, going on to study the Trumpet at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. She has worked with many of Australia’s leading orchestras and is active as a teacher and lecturer in trumpet at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and the University of Melbourne. She has also studied and worked in London and Europe. Leanne performs on both the modern trumpet as well as her specialty, the baroque trumpet.

She is currently Principal Trumpet with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, having also performed as soloist with them on a number of occasions. Leanne is currently the artist in residence at Orange Conservatorium which has been made possible with the support of the Godfrey Turner Memorial Music Trust and Musica Viva Australia. We thank Leanne for her time working with KWS students and to brass tutor Victoria Chatterley for encouraging our students to take up this wonderful opportunity.
