It has been an exciting time in the KWS Boarding Community as we celebrated National Boarding Week, with activities spread throughout last week showcasing not only what we have to offer, but who we are and what we hold important.
Our Head boy Jin Luechai spoke at Chapel to the theme of inclusivity and how as a Kinross community we live, value and respect each other’s differences as well as our similarities; it is within this community that we thrive and celebrate our diversity and the opportunities it brings us. Our boarding house leaders filmed and presented a video at Chapel that gave the wider community insight into life as a boarder; from breakfast until bedtime life as a boarder is unique, ordinary and special all at the same time. Living with your best friends and having football fields as your back yard are just some of the things that our boarders identify as the best part of being a KWS boarder.
On Tuesday students were given the opportunity to invite a teacher of their choice to dinner and to tour the boarding sites. It was wonderful to see so many of our teachers not only receive an invite, but for so many to take up the offer at both Wolaroi and PLC. Reflecting on the uptake on this initiative, it is clear that as a community the link between day and boarding is strong and as the year progresses, we will continue to find ways to connect and make boarding accessible and inclusive of the wider community.
Our week ended on a high with our 1sts and 2nds netball team battling it out on the netball court on Friday night where we raised over $700 for Batyr, a for purpose preventative mental health organisation, created and driven by young people, for young people. This whole site activity was a fantastic opportunity for our boys and girls to spend time together in support of a cause they hold important. A very big thank you to Head of Loader House Sophie Fardell whose efforts made the activity a wonderful success.
I have been impressed and encouraged by the community spirit that has shone through National Boarding week, and I am very much looking forward to keeping up the momentum for the rest of the term.
Coming up soon
Head of Boys Boarding Anthony Begg will be heading out to Wagga Wagga on the 4th and 5th June for the Boarding Schools Expo and I will be travelling to Coonabarabran on the same weekend to support our boarders at the Northwest Equestrian Expo.
