Knockout Rugby League
On Wednesday the 2nd of June, the Primary Rugby League team traveled to Armidale to play against Armidale City Public School. Guyra put points on the board in the first 5 minutes with a try and conversion. They held Armidale out for the most of the first half until Armidale scored right at the end. At half time the score was 20 - 4 to Guyra. We began the second half and Armidale scored first. The team lifted and put 3 more tries and 2 conversions before the end of the game, bringing the score to 36-12. Guyra played a fantastic game and would like to thank Tyson Fifita, Aid Cameron, Miss Fletcher, Eunice and Parents for coaching and the support on the day. We would also like to thank Max Lockyer, Tom Ward and Riley Brandt for filling in for students that were out due to injury.
Under 13’s and 15’s Boys Country Cup, Inverell
U15's won the zone competition and will progress to the Regional comp, defeating Armidale Secondary College, O'Connor Catholic College, Inverell High and MacIntyre.
U13's unfortunately lost.
Well done to all players.
Cross Country - North West Regional Trial
The North West Regional trials were held in Coolah on Thursday 10th June for both Primary and Secondary students who qualified to attend the event.
Students who attended cross country ran in the rain, wind and low temperatures and are to be congratulated for their efforts. It was a tough day on the course with students running in winter coats, beanies and gloves.
Congratulations to Jack Soraghan (6th place), Archie Dowden (6th place) and Lincoln Atkin (4th place) who have each qualified in their age division to run in the CHSSA/PSSA State Championships which will be held at Eastern Creek early in term 3.
Small Schools Knockout
Guyra through to Northern Finals of the Small Schools Knockout in both grades.
Last Tuesday, Guyra Central School sent ten under 14s boys and twelve 12 under 16s boys to the regional finals of the annual Small Schools 11 a side Knockout at Inverell. Both age groups competed against Holy Trinity Inverell, Tenterfield High School and B.A.B (Bingara Ashford Bundara Combined). Both teams represented their school and community in a superb manner, both off and on the field and both grades progressed to Northern Final to be played at Coonabarabran in July.

Despite only having ten players in an eleven a side tournament the Guyra boys went undefeated throughout the day. Riley Melmeth, Cooper Wilson and Rave Brazier were dominant for Guyra scoring several log range solo tries. The first game of the day versus Warialda was an outstanding advertisement for schoolboy rugby league with both teams having a very high set completion rate. Darcy Heagney, Harry Purvis and Tristan Cooper on debut for GCS were also impressive on the day.

GCS under 16s being led on and off the field Brodi Campbell played out of their skins to go through undefeated against three quality sides. In all three games the Guyra boys came under sustained pressure by but the defence throughout the day was very good. Archie Dowden, Riley Campbell and Hayden Wallace were all impressive with ball in hand. Guyra’s poise and control in the come from behind win against the then undefeated Holy Trinity team was impressive and the try of the last play of the day booked Guyra a place in the Northern State Final.
