Year 3 - Year 6

Assistant Principal's Report

Amy Jewell

I cannot believe we are already nearing the end of week 4 for term 2.  Time definitely flies at the Springs when we have so much wonderful learning taking place.

YR 6 HOODIES ARE HERE!!!
YR 6 HOODIES ARE HERE!!!

Hip-Hip-Hooray!!!!

The Year 6 students were extremely excited to FINALLY receive their Year 6 garments, after having to wait nearly a term and a half.

Electives kicked off with a bang this term.

It is so wonderful to see the enthusiasm and engagement of all our 5/6 students in their chosen electives.  Our electives program offers our senior students many opportunities to try something new, potentially out of their comfort zone.  It also gives our teachers the opportunity to share their interests with the students and get to know our students across the senior school cohort.

It brings me so much joy to watch our students begin to learn new things.  Cooking, Mosaic's, 3D printing, photography, puppet making, table tennis, and murals, just to name a few that’s on offer.

NAPLAN assessments took place this week for our Years 3 & 5 students.  I must congratulate them on their tremendous effort and resilience shown throughout the week. They all tried their hardest and should be extremely proud of themselves.  I would also like to thank the rest of our school for being so respectful during testing times.

In Mathematics, the Year 6 students have been focusing on Fractions, and how to add and subtract them with related and unrelated denominators.  They now understand the importance of ensuring that the denominators are the same when completing addition and subtraction equations with fractions.  The Year 5’s have been learning to measure the length and area of objects by using formulas to calculate the area correctly.  Year 4 has been exploring worded problems, which had a strong focus on multiplication.  Students have learned to use the lattice method to multiply two-digit numbers.  Year 3 has been looking at how to use the split strategy to assist them in solving addition equations.

Years 3-6 students have continued to work on enhancing their reading skills, by reviewing each of our whole school reading strategies.  A strong focus has been on teaching students how to use each of these strategies to guide them in being able to comprehend Narrative texts.

Across the middle/senior school, all students have begun mixing their Free Write texts with Narrative Text writing.  I am so impressed with the high-quality writing that our students produce across the middle/senior years.  I have really enjoyed visiting classrooms and reading some of the fantastic narratives that have been created and feel so privileged that students love sharing their writing pieces with me.

With the weekend looking rather chilly, I hope you are able to relax and keep warm.

Have a wonderful fortnight ahead!
