Mr. Lockhart & Mr. Forrest have issued a challenge to the children in the Primary area of Wedderburn College to read a total of 3000 nights combined before the end of term. Reading sessions have to be signed by a parent and extra bonus reading sessions will be awarded over weekends. If the students are successful, Mr. Forrest has to dress up as a princess and Mr. Lockhart as a fairy for the day and cook pancakes for the students. Stay tuned and start reading as the challenge is accepted.
A huge thanks to staff, students and a few enthusiastic parents who braved the cool weather last week to see Ansett fall victim to another Jacka 'Attacka'. It was great to see so many students compete despite the cool conditions.
It is fantastic to see so many young children and families participating in playgroup every Tuesday morning. A huge pat on the back to leader Kerry Walker who organizes the sessions and has as much fun as the children! Thanks to our student volunteers Krystal & Holly who also assist Kerry on a regular basis. Over the past few weeks we have had a visit from a baby lamb, build massive cardboard construction and enjoyed cup cakes. A very positive place to be and as Kerry says the more the merrier, come along and join in all the fun.
Yesterday Mrs Humphrey organised a bus load of our Year 6 Leaders to attend the Primary Leaders Conference at the Bendigo Stadium. It was a very high intensity day pitched perfectly to Year 6 students from the Bendigo and District Region. Despite the early start, all students enjoyed themselves. Olivia: "I learnt how to be a leader in different ways. I enjoyed everything about the day". Jake: "I learnt leadership and met some students from other schools. I enjoyed getting up on stage and being involved in a game of Chinese Whispers with actions". A small group of Year 11 and 12 students will be attending GRIP Melbourne next week.
Next Tuesday will be a sharing of ideas session for Student Leaders. We have asked students to survey classes for ideas of charitable fundraisers and alternative ideas for school improvements. We would also like to keep brainstorming on new ideas for lunchtime activities for all students. Senior students will meet in the library at recess, juniors leaders at lunchtime.
Last week I was lucky enough to spend time with staff members at Bridgewater PS, St Mary's Inglewood and Inglewood Primary School. It was great to see what each of the schools have to offer. All schools have some amazing facilities and some great plans for the future. I encourage parents especially families of Year 6 students to attend one of our information sessions starting next week at Inglewood. Please phone 5494 3011 if you need to make alternative arrangements.
