Science Club

Last Thursday, we repeated the DIY Chemical Gardens experiment conducted at the end of last term. Again the results were impressive and the boys enjoyed the activity. Ideas for activities for next Science Club are welcome... please add these ideas to the Science Club Teams page or see Mrs Schuster.

Next Science Club... Thurs 6 May, 1.00 pm in S2.

The Passing of the Duke of Edinburgh

I'm sure that you would have heard the sad events of the passing of HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, on 9 April. In watching the news coverage of the Duke's passing, I felt really proud of our College's connection with the work of such an amazing man. He certainly has made a huge difference to the world in many ways, especially in the lives of young people around the world. I hope that you, like me, also feel proud to be associated with the program that he devised, to inspire you, challenge you and encourage you to achieve your personal best.

I also have been provided with an interesting article about Michael Dillon, AM,  a documentary cinematographer and director for more than 40 years, including 25 years as Sir Edmund Hillary’s filmmaker. He has filmed three Australian Everest expeditions and is a founding director of the Australian Himalayan Foundation, which carries on Hillary’s social and educational work in the Himalayas. The article in The Sunday Age on 11 April  captures the pivotal role that the Duke of Edinburgh's Award played in his life as a young person. You may like to read this article.

2020 Review of Disability Standards for Education

In 2020 the Australian Government reviewed the Disability Standards for Education 2005 (the Standards). The Standards help to make sure students with disability can access and participate in education and training on the same basis as students without disability. This includes preschool, school, vocational education and training, and higher education. The Standards explain the responsibilities education providers have under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992

The 2020 review determined four areas where there will be change:

  1. Empowering and supporting students with disability and their families
  2. Strengthening the knowledge and capability of educators and providers
  3. More accountability for the Standards throughout education
  4. Building awareness and capability in the Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) sector
