Technology and STEM

@ St Louis

For the past term, our Techsperts (Wednesday years 3/4, Thursday years 5/6) have been exploring Minecraft Education. Students have been working on a range of collaborative projects including building their dream homes.

Minecraft Education Edition is a wonderful digital tool to help our students to design and create, as well as think critically about problems they may face in the world. They take on many different roles whilst working in this space, including being innovators. Some of the designs they have created are amazing.

This week we introduced a problem to them using the Sustainable Development Goals Year 5 and 6 have been exploring in STEM. We choose #14 Life Below Water.

Teams were presented with the following information and challenge from http://www.bbtnb.com/sdg1.html.

We can't wait to see what they come up with when they share next week to a panel of year 6 Techsperts and Mr. Wood. Shark Tank eat your heart out!

Lookout in our final Newsletter Page next week for some of the amazing creations they share.

A new addition to this week's Newsletter is our weekly 'Tech Shoutout'. This is a chance to see how some of our students have used technology innovatively (Innovate), have helped others with learning about technology (Collaborate), or have demonstrated being a responsible user of technology (Respect).

You'll find our Tech legends below:

SHOUTOUT 1! Ben and Em are two of our Year 6 Techsperts. They have spent time asking the year 3s and 4s about what they want to do in Techspert's Club so that they can plan some sessions for term 2. Great work from some of our tech role models.

Jasper spent much of his lunchtime trying to fix one of our 3D printers as they're all broken at the moment. Hopefully, we can get them up and running. Thanks Jasper for trying to problem solve and perservering.

If we have any 3D printing experts in our community, feel free to come in and help!
